Field Day Fun

A special "THANK YOU" to our awesome PE teacher, Mrs. Ford, for planning and organizing such a fun filled day for our kiddos. To see the smiles on their faces and laughter in the air was a day that filled my heart with happiness. It was so great to see so many parents and grandparents in attendance. Thank you for being a part of this fun filled event.

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

May marks Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate and acknowledge the culture, heritage, and history of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. In 1978, Representatives Frank Horton and Norman Y. Mineta and Senators Daniel Inouye and Spark Matsunaga submitted a resolution calling for the first ten days of May to be set aside to recognize the achievements of Asian-Pacific Americans. President Jimmy Carter signed a resolution marking the first ten days of May as “Asian-Pacific Heritage Week.” In 1992, President George H.W. Bush signed an extension making the week-long celebration a month-long celebration each May known as Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month.

Digital Summer Learning

All K-8 students will be able to access Digital Summer Learning. All students will have access to digital content for language arts and mathematics over the summer. Students may work in an asynchronous, self-paced learning environment (Classworks, Amplify, and/or iReady) on targeted learning objectives. Student access to content will be through the student portal.
Students will be able to access the Digital Summer Support eCLASS page to participate in self-paced, digital summer support opportunities in reading and math from June 6 to July 12. To request a device for your child, please complete this form. Device requests must be submitted by May 20, 2022. Devices will be sent home during the last week of school.

Mask Guidance

On Friday, February 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance and the prevention steps that should be taken based on the spread of COVID-19 in communities. Click here for the CDC guidance and the prevention steps. As part of the changes announced, the CDC is dropping its recommendation for universal school masking and instead will recommend masking only in communities at a high level of risk. According to the CDC, Gwinnett County is currently in a “Low” level of community spread. At this level, individuals are encouraged to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and to get tested if they have symptoms. In light of this updated guidance and Gwinnett County’s designation in the “Low” level of community spread, Gwinnett County Public Schools will transition from requiring masks to strongly recommending the use of masks in its facilities. In the coming days, school district leaders will be reviewing and updating quarantine and isolation procedures to account for these changes.

Birthday Celebration Policy

Parents,

Just a reminder of our Birthday Celebration Policy. This can be found in our Student/Parent Handbook as well.

Birthday Celebrations

Because of allergies, students wishing to have a treat for their class should use the Ice Cream plan. This plan provides ice cream for every student in the class for $1 per student. Birthday parties are not allowed at school. Balloons, flowers, etc. cannot be delivered to children at school or taken home on the bus. Party invitations may not be distributed at school.

If you will ask the teacher how many students are in the classroom, you can send in money and let the teacher know which day that week you would like to purchase ice cream for the entire class in honor of your student's birthday. The students all get to choose which ice cream they would like and they receive it at lunch that day. Thank you for your understanding.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing. Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form in the front office no later than 12:00 PM the day of the change. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: no passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons, we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

Student Check Out

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM. For assistance in updating contact information on the Parent Portal, please visit https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11430.
