Background
9/11 was a horrific event that took place in 2001. 2 hijacked planes crashed into the NYC World Trade Center buildings. Another plane later crashed into the Pentagon. 2,996 innocent people were killed in these vicious attacks. The terrorists chose the World Trade center because of its symbolization of American military power.
How the Media portrayed it
The media had many portrayals of the 9/11 incident. One including a negative view against Muslims and the Muslim culture. After 9/11 peoples views against Muslims changed drastically. They began to believe that all Muslims were terrorists and had bad intentions for Americans.
The 9/11 attacks were portrayed as an incredibly severe attack against the United States. News coverage still goes on today about the incident. There have been many new ideas as to what actually happened on 9/11. Many people have made conspiracy theories and found the whole attack to have some information missing from it.
Bias
One specific bias in the media portrayal of 9/11 was centered around Muslim culture. All news reports mentioned negatives about Muslim cultures and religion. The attacks made on the twin towers were by Muslims. It is said that all Muslims hate Americans and we should stay clear of them. The media reports never mention anything positive about Muslim culture. This shows how the news really affects us and our views on issues in society.
