GMAS Parent Workshop

Parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders are invited to attend a GMAS Parent Workshop to learn more information about the tests, testing schedule, how to help your student prepare, and much more. Please join us in the cafeteria on March 31st at 6:00pm. Korean translation will be offered.

Lockdown Drill

Our school, in coordination with our cluster School Resource Officers, will be participating in our school wide Lockdown Drill on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 10:00am. A lockdown drill is part of our local school's comprehensive safety plan and allows staff and students the opportunity to practice in case there was ever a potential threat within our school. The goal of practicing drills is to help our students feel safe at school and to know what to do should an emergency arise. During the lockdown drill, students will practice staying quiet and unseen inside classrooms. Nobody may leave the classroom during the lockdown drill, and entry to the school is not permitted. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child's teacher or administration.

Changemakers School Fundraiser

This is an ongoing fundraiser that will help us continue to raise money to add to our playground equipment. It is not too late to become a Changemaker. TextPARSONS” to 404-994-3399 or click this link to learn more- https://app.hellodonor.com/schools/parsons-elementary-school/signup

Clothing and Household Donations Drive

During the week of April 18th, send gently used clothing, accessories and small household items with your students so they can be donated through the school. Our textile recycling bin gets filled with donations all year long. Once the bin is full, it’s collected by Charity Recycling Services and our school earns money based on the weight of the items. All items must be in clean, usable condition and bagged. All small household items should be in working condition and must be non-breakable. See below for a list of acceptable items!

  • Women's, Men’s and Children's Clothing/Accessories (casual, athletic, formal, jeans, jackets, sweaters, shirts, shoes, purses, backpacks, hats, gloves, etc)

  • Small Household Items (pots, pans, towels, sheets, toys, books, etc)

The textile recycling bin is open all year long and is located in the car rider line. You’re welcome to put your donations directly into the bin anytime throughout the year!

Mask Guidance

On Friday, February 25, 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated its guidance and the prevention steps that should be taken based on the spread of COVID-19 in communities. Click here for the CDC guidance and the prevention steps. As part of the changes announced, the CDC is dropping its recommendation for universal school masking and instead will recommend masking only in communities at a high level of risk. According to the CDC, Gwinnett County is currently in a “Low” level of community spread. At this level, individuals are encouraged to stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and to get tested if they have symptoms. In light of this updated guidance and Gwinnett County’s designation in the “Low” level of community spread, Gwinnett County Public Schools will transition from requiring masks to strongly recommending the use of masks in its facilities. In the coming days, school district leaders will be reviewing and updating quarantine and isolation procedures to account for these changes.

Birthday Celebration Policy

Parents,

Just a reminder of our Birthday Celebration Policy. This can be found in our Student/Parent Handbook as well.

Birthday Celebrations

Because of allergies, students wishing to have a treat for their class should use the Ice Cream plan. This plan provides ice cream for every student in the class for $1 per student. Birthday parties are not allowed at school. Balloons, flowers, etc. cannot be delivered to children at school or taken home on the bus. Party invitations may not be distributed at school.

If you will ask the teacher how many students are in the classroom, you can send in money and let the teacher know which day that week you would like to purchase ice cream for the entire class in honor of your student's birthday. The students all get to choose which ice cream they would like and they receive it at lunch that day. Thank you for your understanding.

GMAS Spring Testing Dates

The Georgia Milestones EOG Elementary School Schedule is now available. Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades will take the GMAS beginning in April.

Afternoon Transportation

All transportation changes must be made in writing. Whenever you need to make a change to your child's afternoon transportation plan, please complete an Afternoon Transportation Change Form in the front office no later than 12:00 PM the day of the change. We will utilize this form to create the appropriate afternoon transportation pass. Please remember the GCPS Bus Rule: no passes will be issued for play dates, birthdays, weekend sleepovers, etc. For security reasons, we DO NOT accept transportation changes through phone calls or emails.

Student Check Out

Anyone checking out a child must present photo identification and be listed in our system as someone able to have access to the student. If you need to make changes to your list of approved emergency contacts, you may make changes on the Parent Portal or stop by the office to update this information. As a reminder, students may NOT be checked out after 3:00 PM. For assistance in updating contact information on the Parent Portal, please visit https://www.gcpsk12.org/Page/11430.
