Dedicated to Tyler Bland

It is with the deepest sympathy that I announce the passing of Tyler Bland, former Calvert County Sheriffs Office Explorers Post #91 member. Tyler was also a current student of Huntingtown High School.

Bland was a dedicated member of Post #91 and was also an award recipient at the Southern Maryland Junior Police Academy last year. He will truly be missed by not only the post but the Calvert County community.

Please Keep his Family in your thoughts and prayers.

Purpose of the Post

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Boy Scouts of America, has established a Law Enforcement Explorer’s Post. The purpose of the program is to provide community youth with positive role models from the police profession, to educate our youth in the complexities of law enforcement, and to build strong police-youth relationships through cooperative community service activities. Along with community service activities the Post also teaches youth communication skills and various other skill sets. (Age Group: 14-21 years of age)

The meetings are held at the College of Southern Maryland-Prince Frederick Campus; Building B, Room 200. The meetings are from 6 P.M.-8 P.M.

Crisis Invervention-Domestic Violence

April 20, 2016 DFC A. Mitchell and DFC V. Evans of the Calvert County Sheriffs Office gave a lesson on Crisis Intervention and 9 Techniques to solve Domestic Violence cases. DFC Mitchell and Evans were able to provide their experiences as deputies in Calvert County as it pertains to domestic violence calls. When the lesson was over Explorers were able to identify what a conflict is, explain domestic violence and outline the 9 recommended techniques to solving domestic violence cases.

Traffic Stops

Conducting Traffic Stops....

On April 20, 2016 the CCSO Explorers Post #91 were given a demonstration by DFC A. Mitchell of the Calvert County Sheriffs Office in how to conduct a traffic stop. The importance of knowing that there is no "routine" traffic stop was relayed to the post. DFC A. Mitchell also went over the various steps to conducting a traffic stop from beginning to end. Again, due to his experience on Patrol he was also able to provide stories and lessons learned while conducting traffic stops.

Explorers at the Memorial

On May 10, 2016 the Calvert County Explorers Post #91 attended the CCSO Law Enforcement Memorial and Appreciation Ceremony. It was held at Full Gospel Assembly of God in Prince Frederick, Maryland. I would like to thank all the post members who came out to support such an event as this and to pay their respects to the officers who have died in the line of duty. Also, thank you to the Calvert County Sheriffs Office for allowing the post to be a part of this years event, as post members lit candles dedicated to fallen officers.


Sarah Clark

Job Well Done

Sarah Clark has been apart of the CCSO Explorers Post 91 for approximately 3 years. She was just Promoted to Lieutenant of Post #91! Outside of Explorers she attends Black Belt Academy Tae Kwon Do, a martial arts studio, for over 10 years and has taught there for 5. Within that time she has achieved her first degree black belt and her third degree black belt. Clark is a graduate of Keystone Nation High School, and now attends College of Southern Maryland. After a year and a half at CSM she plans on transferring to University of South Florida to major in Criminology.

Brandon Zickefoose

Bowl or Not to Bowl........

Brandon is an Honors and AP student at Calvert High School, and has been actively involved in the Calvert Sheriff's Explorers post #91. Brandon is also actively involved in numerous other extra curricular activities such as being the Executive Officer of his NJROTC unit at Calvert High School, member of National Honor Society, Skills USA (Regional and State champion for Crime Scene Investigation, and will compete in the nation competition in Louisville, KY this summer), active in his Rolling Thunder chapter, an organization whose goal is to support and help veterans. Brandon is also an avid bowler as well and has competed on the national level for the past 4 years, in 2012 taking 4th place in the nation at State Games of America. He will pursue all of these interests in college at Belmont Abbey where he will major in Criminal Justice with a forensic science minor, participate in the college bowling team, and finally dual enroll at the University of North Carolina for an Air Force ROTC program to commission as an officer.


K9 Demo- May 18, 2016

The Calvert County Sheriffs Office K9 Unit will be providing the CCSO Explorers Post with a tour of the CCSO K9 Facility and also conduct a K9 Demo. Thank You to Sgt. Gregory for your time and to all the CCSO K9 handlers of the CCSO for allowing the post to come and tour your facility and see your K9's at work.
The Town of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland is proud to announce the 5th annual Memorial Day Festival, Chesapeake Beach Stars and Stripes Festival; “Honoring Our Fallen Heroes,” May 28-30, 2016. The Calvert County Sheriffs Office Explorers Post #91 will be assisitng with the Festival on May 29, 2016 from 7am-4pm. The Post will have a table/booth on display as well as assisting with the various activities and vendors.


The CCSO Explorers Post #91 has an open enrollment, year round.

To be a member of the CCSO Explorers Post #91 you must attend 3 meetings and be voted in.

The CCSO Explorers Post #91 will be selling 2016 Camp Cards until June 1, 2016! This fundraiser is an easy way you can support the post. The cards are $5 and can be used at various businesses. There is also a website on the Camp Cards that provides additional discounts to other businesses. Southern Maryland Junior Police Academy

Now is the time for the Annual Southern Maryland Junior Police Academy!!!!!!!!

The Academy, hosted by the Charles, Calvert and St. Mary's County Sheriff's offices, and the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions (MPCTC), will be held June 26-July 1 at the MPCTC Public Safety Training and Education Center in Sykesville, Md. The Academy is for High School students 9th-11th grade.

To get a Application Packet you may contact the CCSO, 410-535-2800 or you may contact any of the School Liaison Officers at their respective High Schools. Completed packets are due June 1, 2016. Completed Packets can be returned to the Calvert County Sheriffs Office or to the respective High School, School Liaison Officers.
