Guided Reading MOY Jan 6th-Jan 17th

Data Discussions: There are no written documentation expectations during data discussions. The expectation is that grade levels are holding quality conversations using their data to form groups, discuss interventions, and to work on mini-lessons, IRAs, and GR templates.

Guided Reading:

Please make sure we are leveling our students up when necessary. Please use the blue document that I shared to guide you as to where your students should be at this time of year. At the end of each chapter in the yellow book there is a MONITORING PROGRESS section that details how you know when your students are ready to graduate to the next GR level. Please use this useful resource.

Reading Logs:

Minutes have been slowly decreasing recently, especially in the upper grades. Please try to encourage and motivate your students to be filling in these logs and working hard to try and win the MMC for the week.

19/20 Collaboration Schedule

Tuesday and Wednesday PD Schedules. This may change and will be updated throughout the year.

A student in Millholland's class found this video and she shared it with me. She thought it was a great way to practice identifying feelings and I agree! It helps students understand how they look when they are feeling a certain way as well.

Brain States

The brain state lessons are going really well! Let me know if you have any questions about how I taught your grade about the brain so you can use the same language.

I've heard some questions about where the brain state posters should be put in the classroom. There is no specific place they need to be! I know you all have limited wall space right now so just find a spot where they fit.

The seven skills posters are not expected to be hung in the room right now so do not worry about those yet.

Conscious Discipline in the Cafe!

Before you walk into the cafeteria with your class lead them or have a student's job to be to lead everyone in a few deep breaths. This could be in your classroom before you leave or right before you walk in. We are trying to incorporate CD into the day more to help students transition and download some calm before they are in a new environment.

FTCSC Hedgehog Focus

The Hedgehog Concept is based on an ancient Greek parable that states, "The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing." ... Hedgehogs, however, simplify the world and focus on a single, overarching vision, which they then achieve.
