Holiday Canned Food Drive
#otherpeoplematter
Monday, November 26th-Wednesday, December 12th
Woodland's annual food drive provides boxes of food for our Blessings in a Backpack families and for Gleaners Food Bank. We have been very fortunate in donating thousands of pounds over the last few years. This year we hope to provide over 1000 pounds to help those in need over the holidays.
About Hunger ...
-More than 720,000 people in southeast Michigan live in poverty.
-One in six people in Michigan will need emergency food this year.
-34% of households served by Michigan food banks have at least one employed adult. -62% of people served by food banks live in suburban or rural areas.
-38% of the people Gleaners serves are children and 7% are seniors.
-Child poverty has more than doubled in the past decade; one in four children are now at risk of hunger
All classes will be collecting boxed and canned food items. Between 11/26-12/12 classes will bring their food items down on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays to be weighed. We track the totals each day and post it.
