Empowering Our Spartans

The week prior to winter break can be tough for our Spartans to focus on their learning with spirit weeks and other exciting school activities.

Our goal when our student leadership team plans events is to enhance our culture at Stanwood Middle School AND keep the focus on learning.

This week, our student leadership team planned a deck the halls with winter spirit week.

Monday is Fa-la-la-la flannel day

Tuesday is Tree-Mendous Friends (match with a friend wearing holiday/winter gear)

Wednesday is Ugly Sweater Day

Thursday is 'tis the Season (dress as your favorite holiday/winter character)

Friday is Hibernation Day (wear your pajamas/comfy clothes)

Friday before school ASB and Leadership is sponsoring a doughnut and hot chocolate breakfast for all students--sure to be lots of fun for everyone.

Even with all of the fun, expect your Spartans to be focused on their learning throughout the week. Ms. Christmas and I will be back in classrooms looking at student engagement and how each Spartan learns in the classroom.

Please check in with your Spartan and see how they are doing with their learning. Skyward checks before the holiday are a great chance to make sure that students complete any missing work to have a restful break focused on family time instead of letting missing work seep into your break plans.

UPDATED LOST AND FOUND PICTURES!

We have included below lots of pictures of our lost and found. We will be donating everything on Friday, December 16th, so please take a look at the pictures included and have your student check the stage in the cafeteria when they have time

Have a great weekend!

Meet The Spartan Staff

Big picture

This week our Spartan Staff Spotlight turns to two of our 1:1 Special Education Paraeducators, Vanessa Howatson and Louis Milucky.

Last year Mrs. Howatson worked at Utsalady Elementary; this is her first year as a Spartan. She travels throughout her day helping teachers and other Spartans in their classes. Her favorite thing about Stanwood Middle School is how interesting the Spartans are--she said their conversations are fun! Outside of school, she loves to read and re-pot plants.

This is Mr. Milucky's first year not only at Stanwood Middle School but in Washington State. Having recently moved from New York, he says it is a bit wet here, but really appreciates the warm embrace from everyone since his arrival. Outside of school, he likes to read and visit the Cascades.

New Elementary School Boundaries

Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC) will host two community forums to gather public feedback and input on their work so far on recommending adjustments to our current elementary school boundaries.

The first community forum will be 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Utsalady Elementary. The second public meeting will be 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Twin City Elementary.

Please visit our CFAC website to learn more about the process. You can also review the district's Facility Master Plan and enrollment data from a recent demographic study. The webpage also has an FAQ section to answer common questions from our community thus far. The district expects new boundaries to be in place at the start of the 23-24 school year.

Resources Available for Families
