End of the Year Tech Activities
STEM Challenge Week - May 11-15
- Paper Airplane Challenge - due Tuesday at recess time. Have your students design and build paper airplanes out of any materials you choose (magazine pages, newspaper, cereal boxes, etc.) Have a class plane throwing contest and pick the student who has the plane that flies the furthest. During your recess time on Tuesday, I will be out on the blacktop to measure distances to decide on school-wide winners. Please send me your recess time for Tuesday so I do not miss your class!
- Things That Roll Challenge - due Thursday at lunch time. Have your students design and build things that roll out of recycled and found materials. Again have a classroom contest to find the vehicle that rolls the furthest. I will be on the stage in the cafeteria to measure how far your class' best vehicle rolls and find school-wide winners.
- Amazing Tower Challenge - photos due by noon on Friday. Build an amazing tower out of recycled and found items. It might be the tallest tower, the most beautiful tower, or the most creative tower. This may be done in small groups or as an entire class, but please be sure it is 100% student created. Send your photos to me by noon on Friday. Winners will be selected by a blind panel and announced the following Monday.
There are ideas and suggestions for all 3 challenges on the Chapman Pinterest page. Also watch the morning news next week for some tips and suggestions. AND I have lots of donated materials in my classroom which are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Check them out in the pictures below. Please let me know if your class will be participating in these activities! I plan to offer prizes for class winners and school-wide winners and I need to know how many I will need!
Could this be a bunch of building blocks for towers? Can you make paper airplanes from cardboard?
Can you picture these turning into things that roll? Or maybe parts of a tower?
Bottle Caps Galore!
These sure do look like wheels to me! Or maybe they can be put together to make a beautiful tower?

Reminders for Teachers
Our list of Common Sense Certified teachers keeps growing! Congrats to Mrs. Keenan. And our school certification just came through this week. If you are still waiting to teach that last lesson or 2 so you can get your certification, there is no time like the present.
Please let me know if I can help you pick out a last lesson or two to teach so we can reach our goal of 100% certification by Common Sense.
Ed Tech is moving to Charleston this fall and that means travel becomes a lot more expensive. If you want a chance at being able to attend, get your proposals in! Only the lead presenter is given free conference registration, so presenting on your own is a good idea. The link to that form is below!
