Principal's Letter
Greetings Lake Windward Elementary Families,
The new school year starts in two weeks, and I could not be more excited to see our students and families again! I have enjoyed having a slower pace for the summer months as I have had quality time with family and friends as well as a couple of fun trips out of state, but it is now time to gear up for the much faster paced school year. I hope your family has gotten to spend time together doing things that you love during this longer than usual summer break!
Our administrative team has worked over the summer to plan for another amazing school year at LWE. A lot of thought and time has been spent doing class placement as well as reviewing best practices in order to ensure instruction and learning are taking place at high levels each day. The School Governance Council has already met this month and is committed to continuing our work toward LWE’s strategic plan goals. These goals include creating an LWE Parent University tab on our website which will be used to house information about commonly asked questions. We want our parents to be equipped with the information needed to help you and your child be successful. I will let you know once it is up and running!
In addition, you should have gotten an email prompting you to sign up for Infinite Campus. We are no longer using ESchool Plus for Home Access Center. Therefore, you need to create a new account to be able to access your child’s grades and attendance for the upcoming school year.
In the spring, our students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades took the Georgia Milestones Assessment. I am so proud of our students and teachers because the results were once again, fantastic! Once we receive the individual score reports from the district, we will be mailing them to parents.
Our Sneak Peek will be on Friday, August 9th. Students with last names starting A-L should come from 8:00-9:00 am. Students with last names starting M-Z should come 9:30-10:30 am. Please keep in mind that all class placements are tentative until after the 10 Day Count. When enrollment numbers are not as projected, changes in teacher allocations are adjusted by the district to reflect the actual enrollment. We have several grade levels that are on the border of either earning a teacher allocation or losing a teacher allocation. This means we need to be prepared for the possibility of change after the start of the school year. The good news is children are very resilient, and if we assure them all is going to be fine, they are typically good to go!
Please make sure the dates September 3rd and November 4th are on your calendar as additional days off for LWE students due to approved staff development days by the district (RFF Days). These dates won't be on the FCS calendar. They are specific to LWE. When planning trips for this school year, please try to plan them during the numerous long weekends and established breaks. We hold having regular attendance as a top priority as students need to be present to learn at high levels.
Thank you for your continued support of this magnificent school! I look forward to another fantastic school year!
Warm regards,
Julie Morris
