1 in 26 people in the United States will be diagnosed with this medical condition. It's very important to know about epilepsy and seizures. These episodes can happen at anytime and at any place. Please know the first-aid tips and guidance to assist someone if a seizure happens:
- Quickly ease the person to the floor.
- Turn the person gently onto one side. This will help the person breathe.
- Clear the area around the person of anything hard or sharp. This can prevent injury.
- Put something soft and flat, like a folded jacket, under his or her head.
- Remove eyeglasses.
- Loosen ties or anything around the neck that may make it hard to breathe.
- Time the seizure. Call 911 if the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes.

Meet 17 year old, Saaim Ali and this is her senior year of high school. She has had epilepsy all her life but wasn't diagnosed until the age of seven. Since then learning has been hard and with her medication and seizures it's even more hard for her to stay awake. Even so, having epilepsy has opened her eyes on what she wants to do in life. She wants to educate students, teachers, businesses about epilepsy and hopefully create a training people need to go through every year so they know how to deal with someone who has a seizure. Saaim states, "It's going to be difficult at first but I won't give up!"

Charlotte Figi, an eight-year-old girl from Colorado with Dravet syndrome, a rare and debilitating form of epilepsy, came into the public eye in 2013 when news broke that medical marijuana was able to do what other drugs could not: dramatically reduce her seizures. Now, new scientific research provides evidence that cannabis may be an effective treatment for a third of epilepsy patients who, like Charlotte, have a treatment-resistant form of the disease.
Last month Orrin Devinsky, a neurologist at New York University Langone Medical Center, and his colleagues across multiple research centers published the results from the largest study to date of a cannabis-based drug for treatment-resistant epilepsy in The Lancet Neurology. The researchers treated 162 patients with an extract of 99 percent cannabidiol (CBD), a nonpsychoactive chemical in marijuana, and monitored them for 12 weeks. This treatment was given as an add-on to the patients’ existing medications and the trial was open-label (everyone knew what they were getting).

Did you know that 25% of kids and teenagers don’t drink ANY water as part of their fluid intake?
A surprising number of adults don’t drink enough water, as well, with one study finding that half of Americans don’t get their recommended daily intake of water. Not drinking enough water can cause serious health problems, including digestive issues, urinary tract infections, anxiety, and chronic fatigue.
Not surprisingly, 75% of Americans suffer from chronic dehydration, according to a report by CBS.
Because water composes about 60% of our bodies, 75% of our muscles, and 85% of our brains, you should take dehydration very seriously. Dehydration can inhibit the function of many parts of the body, leaving you feeling lethargic, sick, and even depressed. However, if you know what to look for, you can stop dehydration before it leads to more serious complications.
