Commitment Letters
"Commitment letters for all Greenwood District 50 choice programs will be mailed home January 31, 2019. All commitment letters are due February 22, 2019. Commitment Letters must be received by February 22, 2019. Due to students on waiting lists, we will not request commitment letters a second time. Please take care of this if you want your child to remain in a choice program. As always, thank you for your continued support of Greenwood District 50. Cathy S. Chalmers"
Voice
On Monday, students will receive a permission form for our spring field trip to Lexington, SC. We will attend a 6th grade choral clinic witharound 300 other 6th grade singers! I am excited for our students to have this experience.
Several students have not paid for their voice t-shirt. $12 was due on January 10. Checks should be made to Brewer Middle School.
Several students are arriving to class without basic suuplies necessary to succeed: paper, pencil and a binder. Please make sure your student has supplies to keep them organized and ready to learn. Thank you!
Drama
Students completed the unit on theatrical production positions and responsibilities and were quizzed. Next week, we start our theatre history unit with ancient Greece and the beginnings of drama!
Social Studies
Students will present their book projects. They will begin a unit of study on feudalism and the Middle Ages.
Production Technology
We are finishing our own GIFs and moving into coding using the website Scratch. Students will begin with some basic computer programming activities and move into their own original creations in the coming weeks.
Strings
No playing tests next week! Next week we will be working on an in class project. After that we will begin working on some concert music!!
Art
6th grade will be beginning our clay unit next week.
Dance
6th dance focus: We have completed our choreography for the March performance. We are in the polishing phase of preparation. A biography poster assignment rubric will be given out this week, please be on the look out for it in order to purchase materials.
Math
6th grade math students completed an equation test and an inequality quiz (chapter 9) this week and these grades are posted to powerschool. We are now expanding our mathematical knowledge to include negative numbers and operations with negative numbers and absolute value (chapter 10)
ELA
- The students are reading Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry by Mildred Taylor. They will be creating a companion book to go with it. Test is March 1.
- Stems 18 quiz Thursday.
- We will read and annotate Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech this week.
