5th Grade News
Week of November 30 - December 4
Welcome!
Learning Targets
A.R. Requirement for the 2nd quarter: Students must read 2 books on his/her level with an 80% accuracy on the Accelerated Reader Quiz
Achieve 3000 - Students will complete one article each week in class, and one article for homework each week. These articles are presented at your child's individual reading level. For homework, students are not required to do the "Thought Question". To find the articles, students need to go to www.mentorschools.net and find the Achieve3000 link. They will need to be logged into Google and they will choose "Reading - Riddle" or "Reading - Waggoner" to begin the article. (Students have done this twice a week, so I really don't anticipate there being a problem. Please let me know if there is a problem and I can help out or give your child time to do this at school.)
For the week of November 30th- students must complete "Empty Nests"
Writing - In content classes, we are working on some informational writing; however, during writing class, we will begin our new narratives.
Math - Students are working on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators in centers this week. There will be a quiz sometime next week - stay tuned :)
PLEASE, encourage your children to practice their math facts EVERY DAY. Even if it is only for a few minutes. Also, MobyMax login and password information can be found in your child's B.E.E. Binder for their required 15 minutes nightly (or 60 minutes/week).
Science - We are still in need of 2-liter bottles. If we do not have enough by Wednesday, we will be creating a habitat for each class, rather than each GROUP. Students are still studying animal adaptations. We will be moving onto Earth science soon.
