CLMS Family Update

January 6, 2023

From CLMS Principal, Mr. Eric Pettit

Good Afternoon CLMS Families!

I hope that you were able to have a wonderful and relaxing Winter Break and a great start to 2023! Our students and staff have been getting back into the swing of things, reviewing classroom procedures and protocols, expectations, and planning out the last two weeks of the semester. It is hard to believe that quarter 2 ends next Friday, January 13th! Students and families are encouraged to check PowerSchool to make sure all work has been completed by the end of the quarter.

Similar to our first 9-weeks, report cards will be available through PowerSchool only on Friday, January 20th. Instructions on how to access the report cards will be emailed out when they are ready. In the meantime, families are encouraged to make sure they are able to access PowerSchool. If you need any assistance, please contact the middle school office.

The new year often brings new resolutions, goals, and aspirations. As we continue through the month of January and beyond in 2023, I look forward to watching our students and staff reach the goals that they have set for themselves in the 2nd half of the school year! Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter and please do not hesitate to reach out to the middle school office with questions.

As always, Go Pirates!

CLMS Classroom Highlight- The Importance of Reading

Big picture
Did you know that each day, CLMS students spend the first 15 minutes of their English class reading independently a book of their choice? By the end of the year, students will read approximately 40 hours during this time alone during the year! Reading is a fundamental skill for ALL content areas and disciplines, which is why our English team is committed to strengthening this skill for all learners. As students improve in their reading, they will also improve in Science, Social Studies, and even Math! Families are encouraged to ask their students about what they read today, and promote reading outside of the classroom. It is worth the investment!

Season of Giving

Thank you, CLMS! Over the month of December, our students and staff brought in over 1,100 for donation. The Cardington Food Pantry was overwhelmed by your generosity. They shared the following message with the CLMS team:

A million thanks for the incredible amount of food your students collected for our food pantry...we are still talking about it with our board members. You certainly went out of your way for our Morrow County families and they will appreciate it so much. What a Blessing you and your students are to us!

Again, we can't thank you enough for your extra effort and hard work that goes into this type of mission...but it's for a great cause isn't it?

Again, thank you for your support in this great cause! We look forward to our season of giving in 2023!
