Human Growth & Development Curriculum
Your child will be studying a unit on Human Growth and Development as part of the district-wide Science/Health program for students in these grades. The units differ in each of the grades. The information becomes more complex and detailed as the grades increase. The units cover aspects of human anatomy and physiology of the human reproductive systems and the maturing process of adolescence. Lessons are designed to provide students with factual information and proper vocabulary about the human reproductive system, as well as helping them to develop healthy attitudes about their own sexuality. In addition to the prepared lessons, students also have ample opportunity to ask questions. Our professional staff: composed of the school nurse, classroom teachers, and / or the physical education teacher, will instruct your children utilizing the district’s curriculum.
We would like parents to be fully informed about the content of this program. The Central Bucks School District has posted a summary of the Human Growth & Development content and our instructional materials, which can be located on the web at: http://www1.cbsd.org/page/1497. A PDF version of the Powerpoints (instructional curriculum) used in the classrooms can be viewed at http://www.cbsd.org/Page/a8863. The instructional video(s) used in grade 5 are available for review at school by contacting the school nurse. Please contact the school immediately if you wish to preview this content.
For a variety of reasons, some parents prefer not to have the child participate in these lessons. So that we may be guided by your wishes, please indicate in writing, to your child’s teacher, if you do NOT wish to have your child participate in this program.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the certified school nurse. We encourage you to be open with your child about the program and discuss the topic before, during and after the classroom lessons.
Winter Reminders
Please note that the building does not open until approximately 8:20 AM. Students dropped off before this time will not be allowed to enter the building.
We do our best to have our students out for recess every day even if it is only for 10-15 minutes. Please be sure your children come prepared with coats, hats and mittens (labeled with their names).

Christian Lerner
Christian Lerner should be recognized for this month's Boomerang Award for his beliefs, behavior, and contribution to his community! His kindness, generosity, and compassion towards ALL people, but especially those in need this holiday season, has been exemplary. His giving nature, and strong character, have really been shining through! In just one example, he voluntarily chose two tickets off the Christmas tree, that presently stands in the OLMC church, ...that were for an offering to the the Bucks County jail. Both tickets were for 5 dozen Christmas cookies.... ! Christian baked and decorated for 3 hrs, and wanted to include a card to the inmates.
His wish for them was a joyful Christmas, and hope that they would see their families and children soon!
Another showing of his kindheartedness was just this last weekend. Christian went with his mom to the Chalfont firehouse. He volunteered his help for two hours to set up a makeshift Christmas Store. Parents in need were invited to shop for free Christmas gifts if they couldn't afford presents this year. Christian agreed that, "every child should get at least one gift under their Christmas tree," the mission of 'Just be Clause.'
Christian Lerner has been consistently showing his kindness, by choosing to give his time to help make his community a better place. Not only are these awesome qualities to exhibit in the community, but strong indicators of a virtuous young man; something to be recognized and praised!!
