Vision Statement
Hays STEAM Academy hosts a community of diverse scholars who demonstrate exemplary personal character and social responsibility through intellectual, emotional, and physical excellence.
Mission Statement
The mission of Hays STEAM Academy is to create scholars who SHINE: Scholars with Honor, Integrity, and Never-Ending Enthusiasm.
Note from the Principal
This year our primary goal at Hays STEAM Academy is for each scholar to achieve at least one year of growth in both reading and math. Although there are many important things we do each day, academic growth of scholars is our primary focus. Historically, Hays has scored well on state assessments and the majority of our scholars have passed or scored "Approches Grade Level". However, last year many of our students did not make a year of growth in reading and / or math as measured by STAAR and / or Istation. This is unacceptable to me. I know that each family sends their children to school expecting that at the end of the year the scholar has grown an entire grade level in their reading and math abilities. Our teachers are doing tremendous work to plan innovative activities while engaging all students in learning. We are focused on the growth of EACH scholar. Please thank your scholar's teachers when you see them, ask how you can help, and insist that your scholar read at home daily, use Istation 30 minutes 3 times a week at home, and practice their math facts daily. Together, we will SHINE!

Why Conscious Discipline Consequences Work and Punishments Don’t (And How to Give Effective Consequences)
A great article for parents to read!
Punishments vs. Consequences
The good news is that consequences—effective ones—do work! We often use the terms “punishment” and “consequence” interchangeably, but they are not the same.

Stride
Kindergarten - 5th grade students can use Stride at home. This program works on reading, math, and science skills. Scholars answer questions to earn coins to play games. The program "meets students where they are" in order to close gaps in learning.
