Pastor Mary Beth's Musings
On this St. Patrick’s Day, I am reminded of the prayer that is often attributed to the patron saint of Ireland (and also one of the most successful Christian missionaries in history!)
As I arise today,
may the strength of God pilot me,
the power of God uphold me,
the wisdom of God guide me.
May the eye of God look before me,
the ear of God hear me,
the word of God speak for me.
May the hand of God protect me,
the way of God lie before me,
the shield of God defend me,
the host of God save me.
May Christ shield me today.
Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit,
Christ when I stand,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
Amen.
I wonder, what might our current political climate be like if those who are hoping for political office made this prayer their daily prayer. What might your life be like if it were yours?
I’m praying for you. I hope you’re praying for me.
Glory to God!
Pastor Mary Beth
I Love My Church Work Day on Saturday
Spend a few hours on Saturday, March 19, helping with the Church Work Day. The event runs from 8 a.m.-noon. There are a variety of jobs available for youth and adults. It's a great time to help beautify the church for Easter Sunday!
Maundy Thursday Seder Meal, Holy Communion
Please join us for a special Maundy Thursday meal at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24. We’ll experience the Seder ritual that Jesus and the disciples participated in as they began their observance of the Passover in the Upper Room. We’ll share a meal together of homemade chicken noodle and vegetable soups, bread and fruit and conclude with Holy Communion, just as Jesus and the disciples concluded their time together in the Upper Room. Preschool children and older are invited and encouraged to participate in this special service. Please indicate your participation here or on the back of Sunday's attendance card.
Good Friday Services
- Good Friday Service of the Cross, 6:30 a.m.
- Good Friday Tenebrae Service, 7 p.m.
Easter Eggstravaganza
This year’s Easter Eggstravaganza is set for 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 26. It’s the perfect opportunity to invite family and friends. It will include age-specific egg hunts, petting zoo, bounce houses, cookie decorating and a special show—Rockin with Rhett—that will kick off the event promptly at 10 a.m. Several volunteers are needed to help. Sign up here to volunteer.

Preschool Live, Silent Auction Items Need
Our Discovery Preschool is seeking donated items for its silent and live auctions, set for Thursday, April 7. Proceeds from the annual event will be used to replace the iron fence around the north playground. Items can include gift cards, themed baskets, new housewares and home decor, jewelry, tickets to sporting/arts events and services/lessons. The church is invited to attend the event, which begins at 5 p.m. Contact Julie Rives, julie@vrumc.org, or the church office to coordinate donated items.
Vacation Bible School Volunteer Sign Up
Want to join the team for this year’s Vacation Bible School on June 13-17? Applications for adults and teen volunteers are available in the Welcome Center. VBS volunteers can sign up their children to attend VBS for free!
Community Service Day on April 24
Be a part of one of the groups that visit our local fire departments on Sunday, April 24, as part of our Community Service Day (formerly Day of Service) and leave these public servants a meal prepared especially for them. “The firefighters greatly appreciate having something different to eat and they don’t have to prepare it themselves. It’s a great thing to do,” said Brian Wells, one of the team members planning Community Service Day. “You might get a tour of the fire house, and it’s a chance to connect with and appreciate some really interesting people!”
As part of Community Service Day—which will celebrate Vista Ridge’s 24th anniversary—the Vista Ridge congregation will meet at 9 a.m. for a short worship service, and then serve our community through various ways. At noon, lunch will be available and participants can tell about their experiences. Watch The Vista for details about other serving opportunities. Sign up will begin Sunday, April 3. Plan to be a part of this special day!
