Academy Monthly Spotlight

Our August Academy spotlight is Academy of Sports Medicine. Like all of our academies, Sports Medicine is comprised of 3 classes. Students take one class each their 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Our program is taught by Mr. Alex White, our certified Athletic Trainer. Students are able to participate in hands on lessons with our current athletes as well as learn valuable skills like CPR and First Aid. Students in this academy are interested in careers in the fields of Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, Athletic Trainer, Orthopedic Surgeon, and Occupational Therapist.

Students in these classes are eligible to participate in the Career Tech Student Organization HOSA. HOSA is a professional student organization and a powerful instructional tool that can be integrated into the health sciences curriculum and classroom. Students participate in a variety of classroom activities, job shadow opportunities, internships and field-based investigations. Through these activities, students gain skills in personal management, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, employment foundations, and career development.

Summer Internships

Over the summer, nine students from MGM participated in a summer internship. Students had jobs at City of Semmes Splash Pad, Dauphin Island Sea Lab, MCPSS General Accounting, and MCPSS Facilities. The skills gained are very valuable to these students and will help them in their future careers.

Our Academy of Agri-Business has been busy over the summer preparing for the fall season. Teachers have planted mums, pumpkins, and other various vegetables and plants. The pumpkins will be used in our upcoming community Fall Festival. Be on the lookout for our fall plant sale coming up mid October.
