Hansen Weekly Update
May 6, 2022
Hi Hansen Students, Parents, and Families!
We enjoyed a half day with students this morning before staff participated in some collaborative learning time. We also had a fantastic week celebrating our amazing Hansen staff as part of Teacher Appreciation Week! I can honestly say, the Hansen staff is like no other and thank you so much to the Hansen CAPT and families that helped to make this week extra special for all of us. It is a privilege to work with your child(ren) each day, and we value your ongoing support and partnership!
We also want to wish 'good luck' to all of our 5th grade performers and crew ahead of their two shows this weekend as part of the Grade 5 Musical 'The Little Mermaid'! Enjoy, and you will be great!

The Spring STAR Window Opens Next Week
We have been using the STAR 360 Benchmark Assessments this year as our universal screener. This assessment is designed to help us identify students who may need additional support and/or intervention in reading and math.
The Spring STAR window will run from May 9 - May 27. Students will need to bring their school issued ipad or chromebook to school on days that they are testing. These specific testing days will be shared by teachers. Parent Reports will be sent home in June.
More information about STAR Assessment is available on the Renaissance parent page.
Volunteers Needed!
I am re-sharing this message that was sent earlier in the week from the Hansen CAPT....
Dear Families,
We can all agree that these past two years have been very different. Prior to the pandemic, the Hansen enjoyed the tradition of having an end of year picnic. In the past, there have been food trucks, ice cream trucks, music/band, and entertainment (a face painter, a juggler - to name a couple).
Our families and students, have raised money this year through Penny Wars, CAPT Membership, Purchasing Hansen Spirit wear and the Fun Run. Let’s end this year with an event for ALL Hansen students and their families!!!
The current Hansen CAPT board would love to fund this picnic again to close out this school year, but in order to do so we need the following in order for this event to happen:
· Please come to our next CAPT meeting to talk about ideas - 5/10/22 at 7pm in the library (or you can join from the comfort of your home or sitting in your car waiting for your child’s practice to end ).
· Please volunteer to run a small committee. As an example: The 5thgrade committee could arrange for the food truck; the 4th grade committee could arrange for the ice cream truck; the 3rd grade committee could work on activities, and so on. These are just ideas that we have coordinated in the past, but as always we are ALWAYS looking for new faces and new ideas at our monthly meetings.
Right now the current board is unable to run this event without your help!. We simply do not have the bandwidth. We are looking for a couple main volunteers to head this end of year picnic event and then we are looking for each grade to form a subcommittee to see what each grade wants to do.
**If we are unable to get folks to step up and volunteer, this event will not happen.***
The current Hansen CAPT board is happy to help with funding these activities, but we need your help! We would love to start these conversations as soon as possible so this event can run at the end of the year. We are looking to target a tentative date of June 15th located at the Hansen Elementary school!
** Lastly, The 5th Grade students have their annual play this upcoming weekend, and are looking for volunteers to help backstage with crowd control and making sure the fifth graders are lined up and ready to go for their performance.
They are looking for a few volunteers so the fifth grade families can sit and enjoy the show/watch their own child perform and not have to be backstage.
This is a wonderful opportunity for fourth grade parents to see what is involved with the play in case your child would like to participate in the fifth grade play next year!
Everyone involved has been working so hard and we are so excited for this 5th grade class!!

Grade 5 Order - Big Heads
As a reminder, the window to order 'Big Heads' for the last day Clap-Out for Grade 5 students is open, and closes on June 1. Please see the message below from parent volunteer, Kerry Roberts, who is coordinating this...
Can you believe our 5th graders are almost done with school! As most of your know the last day of school at the Hansen is a lot of fun, especially for the 5th grade with the annual Clap Out. Last year we ordered Big Head pictures for those who wished to participate- the kids loved it and we thought it might be fun to do it again this year. For those of you who are not sure what a big head is there is a picture of one within the link. Essentially we would hold them up outside when the children walk out for the last time at the Hansen. This is completely voluntary so no one should feel they have to order these it’s just a fun add on.
The link below is the one everyone should use to order - there is one standard size we will use and they are discounted for us. They will be shipped to Kerry Roberts in one bulk shipment to save on cost. Once Kerry receives the order we will send communication out to pick your head up.

Please note that for long hair pictures the hair will be cut at the chin. Last year some used current pictures and some used baby pictures. The kids loved it.
Oh and lastly SHHHH keep this a surprise - we were able to pull this off last year without the kids knowing and it would be great to do that again.
If you have any questions please email Kerry Roberts at kerryaroberts@gmail.com
Reminder! Bus Registration for 2022-23 is Open!
Registration will remain open until May 20.
Reminder! Canton Art Show is Back!
After two years on hiatus because of Covid protocols, I am excited to share that we are able to host our annual spring art show once again in the CHS gymnasium. As always, the show will include artwork from every art student in the district, PreK-12. The show will be open for students and their families to visit from 6-8pm on Monday, May 23 - Thursday, May 26.
Each evening we will be hosting open studio activities for all ages in the CHS art rooms. This year's show will also feature a silent auction of artwork with proceeds benefiting the work that Doctors without Borders is doing to help Ukrainian refugees. All are welcome!
