Note from the Principal
We will be donating money to the organizations selected by your children. Those organizations are listed below. Thank you again for your help and support of the GES Marketplace. I am so proud of your children for their hard work and perseverance. THEY WORKED HARD. I'm especially thankful and proud of our staff. It takes a great deal of effort and extra time to make the Marketplace come to fruition. Well done GES Staff and families! Thank you to the many volunteers who helped leading up to the event and the day of the event.
The next 8 weeks are going to move quickly with ILEARN for third and fourth grade students, NWEA for K-4 students, Field Day, Earth Day, and K Music Program to share just a few. Please read the newsletter carefully to stay informed. Please do all you can to maintain consistency at home with bedtime and general routines. It will help you and the school! TEAMWORK!
We look forward to seeing our NEW YOUNGEST Gators during our Kindergarten Open House on Thursday, April 11 from 5:00-7:00PM. We are very excited to meet our next class of Gators. The night will include some booths to inform parents, including the nurse, PTO, HSE Foundation as well as visits to the classrooms and a bus tour!
Please take time to enjoy a nice walk or some relaxation with your children this coming week. We will miss them and look forward to seeing them back on Monday, April 8, 2019.
Thank you-
Christi Thomas, Principal
LOST & FOUND
Miss Rose and her students spent some much needed time in the Lost and Found. Thanks to a donation from Mrs. Ireland we have some new racks. With spring weather becoming more frequent there are a TON of gloves and hats! We set a table out in the lunchroom that displays hats and paired gloves.
PLEASE talk to your students about their items, or take a trip through the lost and found. The area is very full and all of these items will be donated at the end of the year.
Thank you for taking the time to show your child these pictures and help keep our lost and found clean!
Friends of the Library
With the end of the school year fast approaching, the Friends of the Library club will not accept celebration book orders after Friday, April 12th. This will allow all of our friends plenty of time to enjoy their special book selection before summer break. Thank you to all the families that participated this year.

Kids Heart Challenge - $32,797 and counting
The latest update for Kids Heart Challenge is up to $32,797. I have challenged our teachers and staff to come up with the remaining $203 to put us over $33,000. We should reach that with no problem with our amazing staff! Thanks to everyone who helped with this amazing project. A special thanks to Mrs. Povinelli for her assistance as well.

4th Grade Track Club
Geist Elementary is having a Track Club coached by Mr. Sutherlin and other staff members. This club is open to all 4th grade students. We will have practices before school and a track meet at Hamilton Southeastern High School.
The track meet will be against 3 other teams from our school corporation. The track meet is scheduled for May 16th with a rain date of May 21st. The meet will start at approximately 5:00 and will be over at approximately 7:00. We will transport the kids to the high school, but you will be responsible for their transportation home after the meet. Keller's Clips - Parent Education Night Summary
Thank you for attending our Parent Night last week! We had a great turn out and great speakers.
Kristin Boice, M.A., LMFT, Pathways to Healing Counseling spoke about Self-Regulation for Children and Families. Please view some of the resources she highlighted as parents in the 'Coach' role. Click here to see the video resources.
I've also included some of the documents shared in our break out sessions with Dr. Shaena Gardner, Psychologist, PsyD, HSPP regarding anxiety and ADHD and in our school's digital citizenship breakout session with Mr. Nathan Frazer. Click here to see the documents.
Enjoy!!

2019-20 Geist Elementary Thoughtful Placement Requests from March 27 thru May 3, 2019
We appreciate you taking an interest and role in your child's educational placement for the 2019-20 school year. Please know, your child's current grade level team is instrumental in creating a balanced classroom group of students for the following school year based on social, academic/learning, and personality needs of each student. There are individual situations where a thoughtful placement needs to be made for a child to create the best possible learning experience. Completing the GES Thoughtful Placement Request form, for special circumstances, will assist teachers and administration in determining classroom placements for the following school year. Individual requests must be completed, each year, by using this link 2019-20 Geist Elementary Thoughtful Placement Request Form for each individual child.
Please know, the final decision on all placement rests with the administration after due consideration of staff recommendations and parent thoughtful placement input. Next year our enrollment will be around 700 students, and it is not possible to accept specific teacher requests; please refrain from inserting specific teacher names for the following school year placement. However, we request that parents assist in identifying the characteristics of a classroom environment that would meet their child's needs.
Please submit your request with this form instead of an email to Guidance and Administration. This form will close on Friday, May 3, 2019. All parent thoughtful placements will be reviewed.
Thank you for partnering with your child's teacher and the entire Geist School Staff.
