ALTA VISTA NEWS
LAST CALL - Alta Vista Spring Chorus
Don't forget that the last day for third, fourth, and fifth graders to join our Alta Vista Chorus is on Friday. During twelve morning sessions (7:45 AM), beginning February 28th, students work under the direction of Mrs. Jane Threet to learn a variety of songs. In April, there will be an evening concert during which the Alta Vista Chorus will perform for friends and family.
There is no charge for participation, but there are only a limited number of spaces available. We currently have 40 students signed up, so there is room for a few more people. Registration will remain open until 3:00 on Friday, but may close early if the program reaches capacity.
To register your third, fourth, or fifth grader for Chorus, click on the link below or scan the QR code.

What is your favorite thing about Alta Vista?
Alta Vista feels like family.
Tell us about your family.
My family is just my husband and our good boy Bean (for now), but I hope to grow our family soon! My husband and I love to watch shows and movies together and to travel!
What do you like to do when you are not at school?
I LOVE to read! I met my reading goal of 30 books this year already, so I'm going to try to get to 40 next year!

PROJECT CORNERSTONE
Fourth Grade - "Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods that Make My Day"
Recently fourth graders had the opportunity to read Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods that Make My Day by Jamie Lee Curtis with our Project Cornerstone volunteers. In a fun and silly way, the book aims to help children increase their understanding of emotions and feelings, increasing their emotion vocabulary and encouraging them to be comfortable with the emotion they are feeling. Some are comfortable and some are less comfortable (they are not good or bad), and they all are temporary. You can experience many emotions before it’s lunchtime! The lesson included a discussion on the science behind emotions (keeping you healthy and safe) and how they can impact your breathing, heart rate, or your stomach, depending on the emotion. This particular project included creating fortune tellers that help students think about things they can do when they or a friend are feeling a particular emotion.
