Schlegel Safari Newsletter
March/April 2022
Hello Schlegel Families!
What a beautiful time of the year! The signs of spring are here along with the typical changes in the weather. Spring provides the opportunity to stop and wonder. What kind of plant will grow from the bud? Why are there so many worms after it rains? What bird is making that sound? This is a wonderful time to explore the outdoors with your children.
Thank you for conferencing with your child(ren)'s teacher(s). We enjoyed seeing many parents in person. In addition, we were thrilled parents were able to conference through Google Meet. We recognize the complexities of being a parent. Each child's strengths were celebrated and areas of focus for the remainder of the year were shared. Your input, support, and participation is greatly appreciated.
Student's have been engaged in activities supported by our special area teachers. Mrs. Gebhardt and Mr. Kabes, our physical education teachers, kicked off the Kids Heart challenge in PE class. Mrs. Palmer, our librarian, shared the March Madness books for the entire school to listen to and vote. We were excited to learn which books won each week and what the final book was in the last bracket. PTSA sponsored the Square One Art project which was supported by Ms. Palmer, our art teacher. Miss Gottschall, our band teacher, and Mrs. Thomas, our orchestra teacher, have been preparing our fourth and fifth grade students for the Spring Concerts. Mr. Burdick, our music teacher, continues to engage all of our students in all things music. We are fortunate to have these activities.
Crew Shoes are highlighted each week on the morning announcements. Be sure to ask your child about Crew. Our fourth and fifth graders have been researching and sharing information about ChangeMakers every Wednesday during the morning announcements. These opportunities are giving us glimpses into the development of future journalists, researchers, and social justice leaders! There are brilliant moments happening each day at Schlegel.
Have a wonderful Spring Break!

Kids Heart Challenge during Physical Education!
Hello Schlegel & OWL Families,
We are excited to announce that students will once again have the opportunity to participate in the Kids Heart Challenge through their Physical Education classes. The Kids Heart Challenge is a terrific way for students to learn about heart health, participate in healthy activities with their families and raise donations towards aiding those with heart conditions. There was a kick off assembly during your child’s PE class on Thursday and Friday, March 10 and 11. Please remember that participation in this is optional and informational packets with all the necessary details will be sent home. Please call or email us if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gebhardt & Mr. Kabes
