A few words from our Principal, Mrs. Kranz!

Happy END of Summer and Welcome Back!

Welcome back to a new school year to all of our current families! For all of our new families, we welcome you to North Metro Flex Academy! This is a small community where we challenge our students and they belong! Our mascot is the Wolf and everyday we strive to be Safe, Kind and Responsible.

We have many goals for this year! This year one of our goals is to improve our attendance!

Another goal is for us to fill up our kindergarten classroom. Our school board adopted an "early admission policy". If you know any student who will be 5 years old by December 1st, please let us know!!

The most joyful event for me this past summer was my oldest of 4 sons was married. It was a (hot) and beautiful outdoor wedding on a farm in Wisconsin. It is exciting for my sons to have a "sister" and for us to have a "daughter". The wedding was just a couple weeks ago, so it has been a very busy summer! (We are still waiting to see all the pictures and videos from the wedding but I have a sneak peek below!)

This will be the 8th year our school has been open! We have said good-bye to a few staff, but I am excited to share that we have the following new staff joining our teaching and learning community!

Chris McKee - our new experienced 4th Grade teacher

Kristen Holsten - our new experienced Literacy/Reading Specialist

Julie Peterson - our new experienced Special Education teacher for Middle School

Jeri Crowder - our new experienced Special Education teacher for primary grades

Genie Meltzer - our new experienced Orchestra (strings) teacher

Nelson Penserga - our new experienced band teacher

Julie Fulton - our new experienced school counselor

Her hours will be Monday - Thursday from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Last year our staff worked diligently to implement new curriculum for reading and math. We went through a very thorough curriculum adoption process for Math and Reading/English Language Arts. All of the research-based curriculum selected is be aligned to MN State Standards and research-based best practices that are aligned with the SCIENCE OF READING. For reading/language arts, we have adopted Super Kids for grades K-2, My View for Grades 3-5 and My Perspective for Grades 6 – 8. For math, we have adopted Bridges for grades K-5 and Illustrative Math for grades 6 – 8.

NEW This year we are using FASTBRIDGE Assessements for Reading, Math and SEL. Stay tuned for more information in the future. Assessments are starting this week.

NEW This year we have adopted a new science curriculum for our Middle School!

New Curriculum at NMFA

We LOVE our food vendor at NMFA!

CKC is our food vendor. Breakfast and lunch is free for every student this year. We still need families to fill out the lunch forms. Students who qualify for the federal free and reduced food program helps us qualify for other programs. Students who do not qualify for the federal program, will be covered by the state of MN.

If you choose to send healthy snacks and healthy lunches to school, your student is still able to receive the breakfast and lunch, if they want it. (If for some reason you do not want your child to have the food offered, please let your child's teacher know.)
