Arbor Springs Elementary School
Spring Forward! March 2016
Our Mission: Arbor Springs Committed to Student Success.
From Dr. D. and Dr. T.
Dear Parents,
March is roaring in like a lion, and with it, we begin the last three months of the school year! March, April, and May will be busy months, so be sure to keep an eye on our website for information about school events and for our live Twitter feed, where we post pictures about everyday life in school. We had our first school-wide celebration for ALL students in February. Students enjoyed popcorn and a juice drink while they watched an age-appropriate movie. They had a blast, and as the movie ended, we caught many students voluntarily cleaning up spilled popcorn and collecting trash! This is the kind of attitude change we have noticed since we began focusing on acknowledging positive behaviors and paying less attention to negative ones. Students are really enthusiastic and eager to follow the Gator Way! Thank you for your support of our PBIS efforts.
We also celebrated STEM Day in February. Pictured above are some of our students who learned about science, (not magic), and went on to participate in STEM activities in their classrooms. While we do have ongoing STEM lessons and STEM-based field trips in the classroom, we like to have a day dedicated to celebrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics each year. As you can see from the photographs, students had a blast!
If you didn't hear, Coweta County received a renewed 5-year accreditation from the AdvancED team. This is such a huge accomplishment and represents the efforts of EVERYONE in the county pulling together to represent what we do each and every day. We were awarded the highest levels of accreditation and praised for our outstanding work.
In the front office, we have two overflowing bins of coats and jackets. When we find lost jackets, we always check for a name and make every effort to find its owner; unfortunately most of them are not labeled in any way. If your child is missing a coat or jacket, please come by or ask your child to check the bins. We will need to donate them within the next week or so.
The Arbor Springs Academic Bowl team placed third in their division for the 2016 school year. They competed in the regional finals on February 25th at Willis Road Elementary School and did very well! We are quite proud of them!
This week is Book Celebration week!
Wednesday (March 2nd) is Dr. Seuss day.
Thurs & Friday (March 3rd and 4th) We will have Reading Caves in the media center!
Please let us know if we can help with anything, at any time. We can be reached at 770-463-5903.

We celebrate the contributions of social workers during National Social Work Month in March. They confront some of the most challenging issues facing individuals, families, communities and society and forge solutions that help people reach their full potential and make our nation a better place to live. Thank you to Mrs. Shannon Adams for all you do for the families at Arbor Springs Elementary and other Coweta County schools!
Swimming in a School of Character:
This month's character word is curiosity. Curiosity is a strong desire to learn something. Curiosity is a character trait that comes naturally. At a young age, kids are inquisitive and are interested in many things. It's the pursuit and recognition of new information and experiences. Most people think about curiosity when something interesting, bizarre, or challenging pops into their field of vision. As parents, being flexible and open helps foster a curious thinker!
How to Create a Curious Thinker:
Cue your child’s interest
Satisfy the feeling of competence
Accept the negative and uncertain
Know that knowledge opens kids' eyes
Find the familiar in the unfamiliar
Remember that things change
Arbor Springs needs your help!
