Dear Hairgrove Families,
We have had a great first two weeks of school!
Our continued commitment to fostering our 8 Keys Of Excellence (Integrity, Failure Leads to Success, Speak With Good Purpose, This Is It, Commitment, Ownership, Flexibility, and Balance) will undoubtedly continue to help our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Our team will continue to embed critical thinking and collaboration across all content areas. We will also continue working diligently to meet the diverse needs of our students through small group instruction across all grade levels and emphasize meaningful, timely feedback to help students work towards academic mastery. All students in grades PK-5 will participate in Dive Into Learning which is an intervention time during the school day that is designed to meet their academic needs.
Attendance is very important. We kindly ask that you do not check out your child for anything other than an emergency, an illness or a doctor’s appointment. The time your child misses adds up and can result in academic loss. We want all of our dolphins to be successful, so we encourage instructional time to be maximized, which is definitely a partnership with our families. Please remember, if your child is not at school at 10:10 a.m., they are counted absent. We need them at school every day unless they are sick.
One of the greatest characteristics of the Hairgrove community is the genuine care and compassion shared between staff, students, and parents. Hairgrove Elementary is a place where staff and families come together to ensure that the children entrusted into our care grow to be productive, confident, compassionate, members of a global society.
I look forward to an amazing year!
Sincerely,
Michelle Lee

Music Notes
Hello Hairgrove Family and Friends!
My name is Courtney Cruz, our students know me as Mrs. Cruz. I am the new music teacher! I am so excited to be here and working with our students. Our students are AMAZING! They have been so attentive and patient with me as I learn how to Ride the W.A.V.E.S. with them.
I am from New York, though I moved to Houston and have been teaching in this area for ten years now. I look forward to sharing with our students my love for music this year. I believe that every person can learn to appreciate and love music in different ways, therefore music is for everyone. In music we all belong and can play a special role. We will explore singing, playing, instruments, creating, moving, dancing, and listening, learning all about music. More information will be coming soon about programs, choirs, and other special musical groups and events.
I look forward to working with you and our students. I hope to see you soon!

PE News
Hello Families!
We are so excited to get back to work in the gym making our bodies and our minds STRONG! This year we started off with a great motivational video ( YouTube) called “ The Mindset of a Champion” for 3rd through 5th grade students. This video talks about the two mindsets that at person can have, either a growth mindset or a fixed mindset, what they mean, and how to determine which you have. Also, we have started lots of movement challenges as well as teamwork opportunities for all of the grades. Please be aware of your student’s PE days so that they are wearing the proper footwear for class. Also, students may bring a water bottle to the gym, but the fountain is available for use. Thanks for your support!

NURSE POLLARD'S NEWS:
The Coronavirus is still among us and cases are rising now that we are back in school. The BA.5 variant is currently the predominant strain of COVID in the United States. This variant is highly contagious. In order to maximize protection from the variant and prevent the possibility of spreading it to others, although not required it is recommended to wear a mask. The two main symptoms are sore throat and headache.
Reminders:
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms
Other Symptoms include:
Cough
Shortness of breath
Loss of taste/smell
Nasal congestion
Fever at or above 100°F
Vomiting/diarrhea
If symptoms occur, please take an at home test. If the test is positive please keep the child at home and send a picture to my email of the positive test with the name and date written on it.
We are no longer sending out notifications or contact tracing.
Please send extra clothes with your child if they are in Pre-K or Kindergarten. Accidents happen and we want to ensure the students have clean clothes to change into if an accident does occur.
