A Picture is worth a Thousand Words
This picture depicts a girl in a hijab writing on a chalkboard. The chalkboard is on an outside wall that looks like it could be crumbling. The girl is standing in rubble in order to write on the chalkboard.
This photograph supports Three Cups of Tea's main idea of the importance of developing better education systems in third world countries. Mortenson discusses throughout the novel the importance of education and how it can end ignorance, violence, and hate. The image of this girl writing lines on an old chalkboard outside, while standing in dirt, supports Mortenson's call to action to create better education for under developed countries. His goal is that by providing better education to girls like the one below, violence can be stopped and these newly educated girls can become prominent figures.
