What is copyright?

Copyright is the collection of rights granted to the author of a piece of work. The official definition is the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same

Public Domain

Is where it isn’t protected by any copyright laws. Either the copyright expired, the creator donated the work to the public or it was made with public money.


Freeware is copyrighted work that you can copy, use or give away for free.


Lets you use copyrighted work for free but only for a limited amount of time.

All Rights Reserved

Allows the purchaser to use the software according to the rules in the software agreement.

Open Source

It allows access to the base code for software allowing users to change it.
