April 28, 2022
Please remember next week is Teacher Appreciation Week: May 2nd - 6th. This is a wonderful opportunity to say thank you to teachers & staff for all that they do for the students of Erickson Elementary School. See information below on ways students can show appreciation for the staff.
The Fundraiser for Families in Ukraine was a huge success thanks to Alexa D., Lydia S., and Rudy M. and ALL the students who donated. Together they raised $1984.00. WOW! I am blown away by the leadership of Alexa, Lydia and Rudy and the generosity of Erickson families. Rudy shared, "I would like to thank everyone who stopped at the table. All the people who bought or donated to help. I would also like to thank the classes that helped make keychains. I was able to raise $466.00. My Mom and Dad said they would match what I raised. So with your help we will be donating $932.00." Pictures are below from the event.
Our newest EAGLES will be here on Monday, May 2 for Kindergarten Visitation (by registration only). If you have an incoming kindergartener, please register and sign-up to attend the visitation on Monday. More information below.
CONGRATULATIONS to 5th graders, Jake P. and Sara K., for being recognized as outstanding 5th grade students. Jake and Sara continually show good character and strive for academic success. They were honored at the Illinois Principals Association breakfast earlier this week. See picture below.
Please reach out if you have any question or concerns. The best way to reach me would be via email or phone: sjohnston@sd13.org or 630-529-2223.

Teacher Appreciation Week
To: The Parents of Erickson Elementary
From: Erickson PTO Board
Regarding: Teacher Appreciation Week: May 2nd-6th, 2022
Dear Parents,
Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2nd-6th. This is a nationally recognized week to celebrate teachers and is a wonderful time to say thank you for all that they do for our children. This year, we will celebrate and thank all staff members of Erickson during Teacher Appreciation Week. Choose the days (or all five) to participate and show our Erickson staff how much they are appreciated!
Monday, May 2 - Paraprofessionals: Celebrate the Paraprofessionals that help assist students and teachers at every level. We would all be lost without them!
Tuesday, May 3 - Fine Arts Teachers: Celebrate our Fine Art staff that follow students throughout all their years at Erickson. These weekly “specials” (Gym, Music, Art, Library and 4th-5th Grade Technology) are attended by students every week - so let’s show these teachers just how special they are!
Wednesday, May 4 - Homeroom Teachers: Celebrate your child’s teacher on this day. Let’s show them how much we appreciate all they have done to help our child learn & grow throughout the school year!
*** We will also have Dress Like Your Teacher Day today for Wacky Wednesday. Have your child dress up like their favorite Erickson teacher or staff member! ***
Thursday, May 5 - Specialists: For those students who work with Specialists, this is the day to show appreciation to them. Social Worker, Therapist, Special Education, Acceleration, etc - these are a critical part of a students learning process that should not be forgotten!
Friday, May 6 - Front Office & Custodians: The Front Office staff is the glue that keeps us all together and the Custodian staff keeps the school clean & safe so our children have a safe place to learn. Let’s show our appreciation to both of these integral groups at Erickson!
Some ways to show your appreciation: Have your child write a special thank you note, share a favorite memory or draw a picture. Or bring them their favorite snack or drink, a favorite treat (flower, lotion, etc), or shop at their favorite store, These are just a few ideas.
Need ideas on what Erickson Staff likes? Each staff member has provided their “Teacher Favorites”. Click here to access the “Teacher Favorites” page. This page can also be found on the PTO page of the Erickson website.
