A Message from Ms. Piezas

The rain is visiting us a little this week. Please drive extra cautiously. Students are well into the swing of learning. We are startomg informational writing in all of our grades. This writing focuses on students giving facts rather than making up stories. Ask your student what they are writing about. Some of their ideas are really interesting.

This week has two 1:30 dismissals (Tuesday and Wednesday). Friday we observe Veteran's Day with a school holiday.

We also have some upcoming events in November and December. The first is November 17th see the flyer below.

Our weather is a little crazy so keep cool, warm and/or dry!

Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible

Thinking before we react.

This is difficult even for us grownups. We are practicing with our students emptying our balloons. How to empty differs from person to person. We all start with taking a few breaths to calm down. Sometimes this needs follow up in the calm corner or taking a walk. Some other soothing activies can be drawing, coloring, listening to music, playing an active game, reading or writing.

Try some of these after a stressful day. Coloring and listening to an audio book works wonders in my house.

Morning Drop Off

Do not park in the driveway in front of the school during drop off. There is a safety issue created when parents wait with their students before 8:15. It forces parents to drive on the left side and drop students off into possibly moving traffic. If you would like to wait with your child until 8:15, park in outside of the driveway. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.

Absences and Tardies

Every school day is a day of learning for our students. It's important that students are in class on time and ready to learn. Our students line up at 8:33 and are in classrooms at 8:35.

Students entering the building from 8:35-8:45 will be greeted by our staff and given a tardy slip to take to class. After 8:45 students will report to the office to obtain a tardy slip.

If your child will not attend school on a particular day you may email cor.att@slzusd.org or call 510-317-4999. Please leave a voice mail. Our office checks it several times a day.

12 ways to help kids cope with school anxiety

Many of our students suffer anxiety. As a parent, I know how helpless we can feel when our children are suffering. Here is an article that talks about some things parents can do at home. Please reach out to your child's teacher to discuss your concerns. We want to help you and your child work through the anxiety and enjoy school.
