SOARING EAGLE
W. Charles Akins High School
Fantastic First-Six Weeks!
It has been a great start to the 2018-19 school year and it is hard to believe we have already completed the first-six weeks. With that being said, the next two-six weeks are shorter by one week, which means progress reports and report cards will be here before you know it. Students, please continue to stay on top of your work and communicate often with your teachers.
Teachers, we are officially in Shocktober, so please take care of yourself as needed. The November break is right around the corner, and I know that together, we can persevere. Remember, you are loved and appreciated and the work you do everyday is important.
It is a blessing to serve you all!
WingsUp,
Tina Salazar
Old San Antonio Road
On October 3, 2018, Akins held their monthly Campus Advisory Council meeting and discussed the issue thoroughly with three representatives from the City of Austin Transportation Department and City Councilwoman Ann Kitchens' representative, Ken Craig. All parties agreed that Old San Antonio Road has now morphed into an extremely dangerous situation for all. The city has conducted a study on this road and decided action must be taken. The city has committed to better road signs and a blinking crosswalk light called a Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon in order to help protect pedestrians. Parents and all staff present were pleased to learn the city understands the danger this road presents.
The Crosswalk and our Students
We have noticed that most students cross Old San Antonio Road between the New Tech building and the portables. We cannot guarantee our students' safety when they choose to cross at that location. Please inform all students, parents, and community members that students must cross the street at the crosswalk to safely navigate this road. It will take all of us to make this happen.
Congrats Akins Eagle Band for advancing to the finals at the Capital City Marching Contest and the Westlake Marching Contest!
Parent Conference Day Huge Success!

We know that it is so much work to get this day off the ground and we appreciate your patience and commitment to our students' families by meeting with every parent that comes through.
