Great tweet from Mark Wilson:
NCCVT’s Electrical Apprentices continue their education well after the work day has ended. Apprenticeship is no easy task but with a prevailing rate of $70.49 an hour in NCC, these apprentices chose a great pathway to success!
Weekly Brief
1. For a couple years now, Terri has championed the work of Catlin Tucker in our efforts to use blended learning in our classes. After a PD session from Catlin, DTHS math teacher Sarah Dunn, implemented station rotations. This is a terrific example of a teacher using newly learned knowledge and skills. What's also exciting is that after a tweet from Sarah, Catlin reached out to Sarah and asked her to be a guest writer on her blog. Find her first article here.
This is incredible for three reasons:
1. It's great to see a teacher turn around and use what she learned from PD. Taking risks and growing every day.
2. Twitter works! Once you build a strong PLN, you can reach out to them at anytime and learn and grow.
3. It helps put Delcastle and Sarah on a national stage. This helps build a reputation that attracts other teachers who want to be a part of something special!
2. I reached out to Michael Quaranta, the state chamber president, who wrote a compelling article in the Chamber weekly e-mailer. His primary argument was in support of the trades. I hope to accomplish three things if we can develop a partnership.
- Be at the table when they discuss ways to increase the labor pool. I want them to rely on us as a direct line from school to work and see us as the avenue.
- I also told him that I would love to discuss putting together a soft skills curriculum informed by chamber members. I foresee us creating something like a video series from local businesses that can be used in the 9th grade.
- Lastly, I would like the chambers, both state and new castle or at least one, to validate our senior CTE certificates.
There's a lot of work entailed if we go down this road but it's all designed to clearly identify us apart from the pathways.
3. I had the unique opportunity of having a sophomore from St. Georges shadow me for the Ed Rising competition. It was a unique experience for both of us. Special thanks to Michele, Dave, Shanta, Al for contributing and making Imani's day eventful.
Up Ahead: New Semester
This week is all about admissions. We have raters in Marshallton 112 on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week from 8 to 3 p.m. The DTHS team will be in 110 just on Monday.
On Tuesday there will be 7, and 5 on Wednesday.
As of today, we have 2,197 applications received. We have 26 people rating (school counselors, a few specialists and assistant principals rounding out the teams).
This is a massive undertaking and we are incredibly appreciative of everyone's commitment to this process, especially Kathy, Debbie, and Lori.

Going Beyond...
Last week I mentioned the concept of painting done. A communication practice that ensures that there is clarity on the expected outcome. This week I challenge you to use it. The knowledge we gain is only useful if we use it!
