Congratulations National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists!
The Central Bucks School District's Board of School Directors recognized 28 CBSD students who achieved the distinct honor of being named semifinalists in the prestigious 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Competition.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several rigorous requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
Thank You CBSD Support Staff!
In honor of National Educational Support Professionals Day, Superintendent Dr. John J. Kopicki invited Deneen Dry, president of the CBSD Educational Support Professionals Association, to the November School Board meeting to accept a proclamation on behalf of CBSD's support professionals.
Dr. Kopicki read out several facts about this group of "dedicated school employees," noting that "they support our teachers and administrators, greet our families, keep offices running smoothly, and generally keep the district humming each and every day."

Board Approves Naming of C.B. West Athletic Practice Fields in Honor of Coach Mike Pettine
Following a public meeting of the C. B. West Athletic Practice Field Naming Committee earlier this month, the Board approved the naming of the practice fields at C.B. West as "Coach Pettine Athletic Practice Complex."
Dr. Kopicki thanked the entire Board for their leadership on this matter, especially President Glenn M. Schloeffel and Operations Committee Chair Tracy Suits; as well as Director Sharon Collopy who served on the field naming committee.
He also noted the contributions of CBSD Athletic Director Danielle Turner, C.B. West Principal Tim Donovan and others at C.B. West; and Jim Benstead, who Dr. Kopicki noted was at the very forefront of ensuring that Coach Pettine received this honor.
"Jim is not only a strong advocate for what he believes in, he’s a strong advocate for the Central Bucks School District,” Dr. Kopicki said.
The Board also approved plans for a "tribute wall" for C.B. West educators, coaches, and state champions. To create equity among the three high schools in their ability to honor individuals who make significant contributions and bring recognition to the schools, the operations committee of the Board will discuss the potential for a wall or other means of recognition at C.B. South.
