The Central Bucks Board Note
November 2019 ~ Vol. 2, No. 3
Most Sincere Thanks
Superintendent Dr. John J. Kopicki thanked Glenn Schloeffel and Dennis Weldon, who did not seek re-election, for their service to the district during the board's November meeting.
"Their support of our schools, our faculty, and our staff has been rooted in a deep sense of CB pride, and a fierce commitment to excellence when it comes to the education of this community’s children," Dr. Kopicki said.
"These individuals spend hundreds of hours reading, researching, attending meetings and making difficult, sometimes unpopular decisions on behalf of their constituents," he added.
"For that reason, we are so grateful when individuals like these two gentlemen step forward and answer the call. They care about students, about teachers, and about this school district. They value education and have chosen to do this work because they knew could help, and they wanted to do just that," Dr. Kopicki said.
School board directors elected to represent CBSD regions II and III will be sworn in and seated at the board's annual reorganization meeting on December 3 at 7:30 p.m.
Comprehensive Plan Approved
The comprehensive plan; which addresses standards, curriculum, instruction, assessments, safe and supportive schools, materials and resources, professional education, and special education; was approved by the board following the 28-day public inspection and comment period.
Dr. Nadine Garvin, assistant superintentendent for elementary education, updated the board on feedback received during the public review period and noted any modifications made to the plan during before presenting it for the their consideration.
The plan has three over-arching goals with their own sub goals and action plans. These main areas are:
- Social and Emotional Wellness: Central Bucks School District will enhance the school community by providing curriculum, professional development, supports, and protocols to promote the social and emotional wellness of our students and staff.
- Community Connections: Central Bucks School District will develop mutually beneficial partnerships that strengthen the relationship between our schools and community while enhancing students' pathways to college and career readiness.
- Innovation and Leadership: The Central Bucks School District will create opportunities for students to problem solve, innovate, lead, and contribute to their local and global communities.
Language within the social and emotional wellness goal/strategy one, was modified to reflect the need to "increase services, personnel, and resources (internally and externally) to support the growing social and emotional needs of our students, and the training of our district staff, as determined." Dr. Kopicki reminded the board that additional staff and other program changes would come before the board for their review.
Review Dr. Garvin's presentation here.
Every three years, a school entity must submit a comprehensive plan to the U.S. Secretary of Education for approval. The plan will now be submitted to Pennsylvania Department of Education.
