HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 1 Week 5 - 8 March 2019
FROM MARK
Dear Parents/Guardians
Now that we are in the season of Lent our children will be learning about the challenges Jesus faced, and how he embraced them. I think that this quote from Thomas Merton, one of the most influential philosophers of the twentieth century, has its place.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Mass on Ash Wednesday. Father Peter was, as always, in good form, and did such a wonderful job of sharing the message of Christ in a life giving way. Michelle Kirwan and her expanding choir were in fine form and did a wonderful job of leading the singing. Our Year Five gang prepared the liturgy and I thank Sonia, Pat and the students of Year Five for their reverent leadership.
Our campers return today! They have had a wonderful time! Our thanks to their teachers Kate and Lachie, teacher David Edwards, our Assistant Principals Aleana and Geordie and our Assistants Steve Hickey and Sue Desmond who did everything they could to ensure that it was a memorable week! Thank you all very much for giving our Year Six children this opportunity.
Speaking of camping, it’s Dads and Kids Campout next Saturday – yahoo!!! Best wishes to everyone attending this event. It really is very special and very enjoyable.
Have a great weekend.
Mark de Kluyver
Principal

3 Year Old and 4 Year Old Kindergarten Enrolments 2020
We are currently accepting Kindergarten enrolments for 2020. Please contact Laurie Evans, laurie.evans@cewa.edu.au if you have not enrolled your child or if you are unsure. Enrolment at 3 Year Old Kindergarten does not guarantee enrolment in the 4 Year Old programme. Let others know if they are interested!
4 YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2021
We will be interviewing new families to the school in Term 2, 2019. For families already within the school with older children from 4 Year Old Kindergarten to Year 6, no interview will be required. If you have not enrolled your child or are unsure whether an application has been completed, please contact Laurie Evans, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday on 9203 4500 or email admin@hrs.wa.edu.au.
SCHOOL FEES
Annual School Fee statements were emailed to all families last week. Thank you to all the families who have already completed the payment form.
If you have not already done so, please complete and return the Payment Option Form (see below) before Monday 11 March 2019. Every family is required to complete and submit a payment option form. Families that already have a fee payment plan arrangement are still required to complete and return the form. This is a new procedure for ALL FAMILIES at Holy Rosary School. Office staff will follow up with families that have not returned the form by the due date.
Should you have any questions in regards to your Annual School Fee account please contact Laurie Evans, Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday ( laurie.evans@cewa.edu.au).
Outside SCHOOL Hours care (OSHC)
Most people would be aware that we have secured the services of another provider, namely ‘Discovery Kids’ who began this year. They are a provider of Catholic outside of hours care onsite at Holy Rosary. Ours is one of only three schools in which they operate in.
Our numbers have increased significantly in just a few weeks. Comment about friendly staff, familiar faces and happy children have been well-received. In my visits to the Centre both before and after school I can agree with these sentiments. If you are considering before school, after school or vacation care I’d like to suggest you include them in your list of options to think about.
HOLY ROSARY COMMUNITY NEWS

Many of our families will know Holly is a former Holy Rosary student, mum-of-three; and our Library Officer who has worked at Holy Rosary for nine years.
What you may not know is that Holly is also a qualified Social Worker, as well as an Education Assistant. Which makes her an excellent fit for Holy Rosary’s new role of Pastoral Worker – Student Well-Being!
So, Holly will be across the Library as well as Pastoral Care. Stay tuned for lots happening in this space!

EASTER FUNDRAISER
The Holy Rosary Community is doing something a little different this year for our Easter fundraiser. The theme is new life – through healthy options and sustainability.
It's a Mushroom Box!
The Mushroom Box is grown from coffee grounds diverted from landfill and each box can grow three harvests over 10-16 weeks.
It’s an easy and fun project for families, where our children can establish a food connection and curiosity by learning to cultivate, watch the mushrooms grow at home and try eating them.
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO BUY MUSHROOM BOXES WILL BE AVAILABLE SOON!
Alicia Adkins, mum of Lucinda and Giselle, is running the fundraiser. She is passionate about health and sustainability. Alicia is a member of our Families’ Business Directory: Inner Origin is an Australian business that is all about truth on labels: www.innerorigin.com/truefood

SCIENCE NEWS
Library News
As we commence our Lenten journey this week, we have been speaking about what Lent means to us and the many symbols of Easter, while borrowing our favourite rabbit, chicken and egg books! The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has released their notable books for 2019. We are fortunate to have most of these books in the library and children are welcome to borrow them from the display. You can view the notables for 2019 here: https://cbca.org.au/notables-2019
