The evening will include floor activities (building games, action heroes, Barbies, etc) in the gym, outside playgrounds will be open with a nerf football & baseball games, fall crafts, video games will be open after 8 pm, and a variety of fall movies will be played in the gym with popcorn for snack. Children will have the same rules as we do in after school in that they are able to pick what they want to do. Besides popcorn, no other snack food will be served due to allergies.
If your child brings dinner, they may eat in the cafe. There will be a roster sheet in the gym so please sign-in first at the gym before you leave and then please sign the kids out in the gym when you pick them up.

BETTER TOGETHER CAMPAIGN
The Better Together Campaign is off to a great start with over 85 families that have made their Better Together contributions. The PTA and the school greatly thanks them for their generosity. However, we need ALL of our Pleasant Union families to make their contributions in order to meet our goal of $20,000 by October 26th. Just go to http://www.puepta.com and click the "Donate" button to make your tax-deductible donation! Make sure to include your child's name in the special instructions so the classroom will receive their rewards.

PLEASANT UNION OFF TO STRONG START FOR READVOLUTION
REMEMBER TO ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO READ 20 MINUTES EACH NIGHT
We hope that your child's teacher has alerted you by now about the READvolution program that kicked off last Monday. Please read below how the program works. If you have any questions please contact our school READvolution rep Kayla Perry (kperry@wcpss.net).
The Wake County Schools are excited to once again partner with the Carolina Hurricanes to implement READvolution in all of our elementary schools. This year, READvolution will start and end earlier so we avoid major holidays and Winter Break. Kick-off was on Monday, September 24 and wrap-up will be on Friday, November 16. The goal however remains reading daily for 20 minutes and 800 minutes cumulatively over the eight-weeks.
The Carolina Hurricanes will award students who achieve the reading goal of 20 minutes per day throughout the allotted time frame (for a total of 800 minutes) will receive two complimentary ticket vouchers to a Hurricanes home game.
For the school-wide component, schools that collectively read 2,020 books between Sept. 24 and Nov. 16 will be entered into a drawing by region to participate in this year’s Cool School Field Trip to the PNC Arena in February 2019. If your school is selected from the drawing to attend the Cool School Field Trip, students will have the opportunity to see a Hurricanes practice, participate in fun activities, and hear from the players.
Guides have been created to share with families and school staff to help log reading and books into the READvolution Dashboard. Go to video overview to find out how to log in new books. Also go to the following links for more parent information on READvolution and a "info sheet" on signing books in.

LANDSCAPE CLEAN UP DAY
Mark your calendar for Landscape Cleanup Day on October 20 from 9-12. Our focus will be the front carpool/bus loop rounds, and the front of the K-1 building near the parking lot. Depending on how many people attend, we may extend our work to the back of the K-1 hallway. Please bring yard tools, clippers, and blowers. We will not be doing "heavy" work- rather a fall clean up session. If interested in helping with landscaping events, please join the Landscaping Hub in MemberHub. You may also send an email to valeriedebruin@icloud.com for questions, comments and suggestions.
We greatly need volunteers to help make this a success! Water and snacks will be provided by the PTA. Students are welcome to participate and their parents must also be present. We hope to see you there!
