Principal Connection
Hello Dorr Families,
Parent Teacher Conferences are next week. This is an important time for you to hear the progress your child is making as well as the expectations for the year. Teachers published a SignUpGenius for conference times. If you have not signed up yet please do so. Meeting with you is important to us.
When arriving for your conference please enter through the doors by the office. Per Allegan County Health Department recommendations, "face masks are
recommended, yet no longer required while in a school building."
We look forward to seeing you,
Mrs. Seniura
Illness And Absences: What's The Protocol?
- Students who show any of the following symptoms should be kept home: Fever, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, cough, severe congestion, chills, muscle or body aches.
- Children must be vomit free and/or fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.
- If antibiotics are prescribed, students may not return until they have taken the antibiotics for at least 24 hours and the symptoms begin to resolve.
- Please report your child's absence each day.
- When reporting an absence, please detail specific symptoms. For example: "My child has a fever and sore throat". This helps us identify outbreaks of specific symptoms/illnesses within the classrooms and alert parents and health officials if necessary.
Students are marked absent when they are not at school. You may notice that even though you called your child in for the school day it is marked on their attendance as "unexcused". This happens because the district policy states that the only absences that are "excused" are those accompanied with a medical excuse slip from a doctor. We understand that it is not always necessary to take your child to the doctor for illness. Therefore, we make notes on every reported absence. Whether you call and leave a message on the after hours line, or you talk directly with the office staff, the reason your child is absent is always noted. This information is used when determining truancy status. If there are no reports of parent contact then we assume your child is not sick and they will be subject to truancy status.

Distinguished Artist
Distinguished Artist
Dorr Elementary has a Distinguished Artist Program in which student artwork is on display like an art gallery for the school year. Each year 9 students are chosen as a Distinguished Artist. The distinguished artist is a student who is responsible in art, shows their creativity and works hard on all projects. . Ms. Corcoran chooses 3 to 4 pieces of artwork in which the students followed directions and completed the project adding their creativity. A committee of staff members then votes on the projects to choose the winner.
