The Counselor Connection

November News from Mrs. Thornton

November already? December is RIGHT around the corner!

November is here and just as awesome as October was! I apologize for the delay! I wanted to make sure that the SLT group projects were included on this newsletter! During my class time, we really kicked off our focus on making Central a Bully Free school by watching and reflecting on some powerful films. We are working to establish the difference between what is considered mean and what is considered bullying. It is hard but always important to remember that all bullying is mean but not all mean choices are bullying. Our students are children and they do make mistakes. We want to make sure safety is always the priority and that we are assisting with helping students grow and be awesome citizens within Central and the community. We will continue on with focusing on how we control our OWN actions and that EMPATHY is the key. You will find highlights below on what has been happening since the last newsletter! Be looking for December's as it will be a combination of December and January news and highlights! It's a GREAT DAY to be a TITAN! #CentralPride

Central Attendance

Attendance has been amazing at Central! Our building wide attendance for the the school year moved up this month to 96.66%! Our 4th grade is leading with 6th and 5th close behind. Each month, the classroom with the top MONTHLY attendance wins the GOLD STAR AWARD! The class earns a certificate to hang up and gets possession of the Golden Electric Pencil Sharpener. The students and teachers LOVE having an extra electric pencil sharpener for the month. Attending school keeps them "Sharp" so they earn it! For the month of September, Mrs. Hulsizer's 5th Grade earned the award. The month of October was won by Mrs. Stewart's 4th grade with over 98%! Our building wide goal for the year is 92% as that was our total last year. Please remind your student of the importance of attending school and thank you in advance for calling in if your student is sick or running late!
Bullying: You Are Not Alone

Bully Free- That's Me!

We had a wonderful magician named Richard Landry come and do a magic show that focused on the importance of being Bully Free! He had students focus on choices they can make to keep us a Bully Free school. The kids (and adults) had a great time and were certainly amazed by his magic! Check him out at

S.L.T.- Student Leadership Team

The SLT spent October and the month of November working on their first major project and getting it finalized. There were three separate projects. The three different topics were Red Ribbon Week, Bully Prevention and Spirit Week. They spent their free time at recess taking pictures and plugging them into a Google Slide show that included images, music videos, etc. They are also going to be presenting to the school during our Wednesday Morning Assembly. They have worked to hard to highlight the positives and inform their their work. We are not changing gears and are focusing on a Community project. With the season of giving approaching, our team is looking to give back. More details to come...

What is all this WELLNESS talk anyway?

The Wellness Committee is a group of teachers coming together to make sure that we are practicing wellness as students AND staff! Wellness is often thought of as just physical activity but it also includes how we eat and what we do to keep our minds well. Last month, we focused on apples and the students were able to bring in an apple for a snack on Wednesday. There was also an event where each room got to taste test different types of apples and compare them. It was amazing to see the excitement as some of our students had never tasted an apple or realized there were so many different kinds! A huge shout out to County Market for their donations! Another huge shout out to Mrs. Johnston, our School Nurse, for also donating for some students that were not able to bring an apple for a snack! This month, the students have been taken on a Nature Walk where they are on a mission to find particular objects. We are also going to have a PASSION Day! Check out what this is about down below!

What Fun Events are Coming Up?

Chess Club

Thursday, Dec. 3rd, 3:15-4:15pm

Central Intermediate

Chess Club has been such a success. We have wonderful enthusiasts helping us and they are working hard to make sure that Chess is being played the correct way. This does take time when trying to figure out the "notation" or way in which to keep score. Once this is master, they will spring into facing their opponent immediately.
