Northside Reads 21 in 2021
The year is not over yet. There is still time to read 21 in 2021. Make a goal to read for 21 minutes everyday, or read 21 picture books by the end of the year. Stop by your Ott library to check out some books to meet this goal.
Read for the Record
Read for the Record is the world's largest shared reading experience where people around the world read the same book on the same day to share the joy of reading. Read for the Record was held on Oct 28th. Ott students participated in this experience by their teacher reading aloud the book Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon by Kat Zhang. Each grade level shared a copy of the book that was bought using proceeds from our recent book fair. One lucky classroom from each grade level won the book in a raffle to keep in their classroom library.
Seesaw
Kindergarten and first grade students are using the learning platform Seesaw in the classroom and the library. Students listened to the story Go Away Big Green Monster! by Ed Emberly to tell the green monster to come back and then created their own monsters using the Seesaw app on their ipads.
Digital Citizenship Week
Digital Citizenship week was Oct 18-22. Third grade students learned when using social media it is best to be respectful and only post positive comments. Students listened to the story Nerdy Birdy Tweets by Aaron Reynolds and then wrote a positive comment about a friend on their paper tablet.
Texas 2x2 Reading list
The Texas 2x2 Reading list is an annual list from the Texas Library Association that recommends a variety of quality books for children ages 2 to 2nd grade. Second grade students listen to 2 books from the list each library visit and keep a reading log of the books. When we finish the list, they will vote on their favorite book from the list. You can visit the website to checkout the list as well as activities for each of the books. Texas 2x2 Reading list
Digital Resources
Students in third, fourth and fifth grade learned how to use various digital resources in the library. Students learned how to access the library online catalog, interactive e-books and digital databases that they can use in the classroom to research different topics.
