Monomoy 8th graders - Project 351 Ambassadors Kicks off Transformative Year of Service with Governor Baker
Each year two eighth graders are selected to represent the towns of Harwich and Chatham, as well as Monomoy Regional High School, as Service Ambassadors for Project 351.
On January 19, 2019, Orla Delaney and Drew Ryan, eighth graders from Monomoy Regional High School, were selected to join more than 380 other young leaders from across the Commonwealth for a statewide youth-led service initiative. Orla and Drew kicked off their transformative year of service as a Project 351 Ambassador at an annual day of celebration and service in Boston. Convened by Governor Charlie Baker, Project 351’s 2019 Launch & Service Day unites the eighth class of eighth grade service Ambassadors and honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a day of enrichment, community building, and team-based service across Boston. Project 351 is a nonprofit organization that develops a new generation of community-first service leaders through the year long engagement of an eighth grade Ambassador from every city and town in Massachusetts. Orla and Drew were selected by educators for their demonstrated values of kindness, compassion, humility, and gratitude; and an exemplary ethic of service. Project 351 encourages the recognition of unsung heroes and quiet leaders, as it strives to foster unity and opportunity through Ambassador-led service. On Launch Day eighth graders unite from every corner of the Commonwealth to honor Dr. King and to lead transformational service at nonprofit organizations across Boston. To quote Carolyn Casey, executive director and founder of Project 351. “Launch is day one of a year’s term of leadership development, hands-on service, mentorship, and friendship with a statewide community of peers. Through their dedication and effort, Ambassadors develop the courage to lead, cultivate values of kindness and generosity, and demonstrate the scale of impact realized when young people unite to make a positive difference.” This year’s launch included a morning kick-off with Governor Charlie Baker and First Lady Lauren Baker at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum and high impact service across Boston. Together, Ambassadors impacted thousands of neighbors through service at the Pine Street Inn, Greater Boston Food Bank, Cradles to Crayons, the McKay School, and Service Village -- led by Lauren Baker -- which served the Wonderfund, Y2Y Harvard Square, Hope & Comfort, Martin Richard Foundation, Mass Military Heroes Fund, Construct, Inc., Elizabeth Freeman Center, Soldiers' Homes in Chelsea and Holyoke, and the Coast Guard station in Boston. In addition to demonstrating care to 19,851 neighbors, they created thank you gifts for the devoted staffs of every nonprofit they served.
Our Monomoy representatives shared their experience
Drew Ryan
“The best part of Launch Day was that we could come together as a family, as a community. To work to make a student’s day brighter or to supply a family with some food. It was an amazing way for us to make a positive change together.”
Orla Delaney
“Launch day was so much fun! I enjoyed meeting other ambassadors from all over the state. There were many speakers including Ayonna Pressley and Charlie Baker. It was very inspiring to hear them speak. We went to the Pine Street Inn and made care packages for the workers and the people that stay there. It was incredible how many people we could help in such a short amount of time.”
Theater Department welcomes professional Broadway performer Robi Hager as guest artist
We are thrilled to once again welcome Robi Hager as a guest artist. Robi is here for 2 weeks working with our students helping them prepare for the spring musical NEWSIES. This is an extraordinary opportunity for our students to be coached by a professional Broadway performer. Robi’s credentials include Broadway casts of SPRING AWAKENING, HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS, and DR. ZHIVAGO to name a few. He presently just completed the national tour of FUN HOME and wrote and produced his own show BASIC WITCHES to critical acclaim.
We would like to thank the Chatham Cultural Council, the Harwich Cultural Council, the Art of Charity and The Friends of the Arts for their generous support of this program for Monomoy students.
MRHS senior Perry Comeau awarded Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award for Academic Excellence
Each year, Superintendent Dr. Scott Carpenter awards one Monomoy Regional High School senior the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Award for Academic Excellence. This award is given to the high school senior who has distinguished himself or herself in the pursuit of excellence during his/her high school career. In selecting the award winner each year, Dr. Carpenter looks for not only academic success within our classrooms, but for demonstrations of leadership and initiative within the school and the greater community. MRHS high school counselors and administrators help with this selection, and for 2019, the team has selected Perry Comeau to receive the Award for Academic Excellence.
Perry was presented with the award at the School Committee meeting on January 31, 2019. Dr. Carpenter read the following remarks when bestowing this honor:
According to our high school staff, Perry possesses one of the most brilliant mathematical minds to pass through our doors. Perry’s record of academic success is flawless and demonstrates continuous growth and perseverance during his four years at Monomoy Regional High School. He has consistently amassed outstanding accomplishments that set him far apart from his peers, and he has demonstrated an aptitude far beyond most high school students.
Perry demonstrates an intellectual capacity to acquire information at a supremely rapid pace. His ability to utilize reasoning skills and comprehend the most abstract concepts, down to the smallest details, truly place him in a world of learning all his own. Perry’s transcript is immaculate as he has taken every AP course available to him, and never received a grade below an A. When it was determined that AP Physics would not fit into his already restricted schedule, he found a way to free up a block in his schedule by taking a Dual Enrollment course at Cape Cod Community College where he completed college-level English Composition in six weeks over the summer prior to his senior year.
Perry will represent our seniors as the 2019 Valedictorian. His superior SAT scores, with a perfect math score of 800, along with perfect AP scores, perfect MCAS scores and impeccable transcript are reflective of the intellectual ability he possesses. He was acknowledged as a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program. He has a passionate interest in bio-medical engineering and envisions himself developing medical breakthroughs that impact the world.
Perry is an avid athlete and has lettered in two varsity sports that have led to his captaincy in both. He is a member of the school’s chapter of Key Club, where he holds the position of President and attends the annual DECON conference. Perry is a member of the school’s National Honor Society and has been selected to and attended a multitude of leadership conferences throughout the state. Perry was the recipient of the Harvard Book Award, and was nominated by the entire faculty to receive Math, Science, English and History Departmental Awards, which is a testament to his tremendous intellectual promise in each academic domain. He is a Peer Tutor and is consistently giving up his own time to assist classmates and peers who need additional support in their classes. Perry has a kind nature and deep connection with his family. He thrives with strong sibling bonds between he and his sister and brother and always reflects on them when he talks of his long-term plans. Perry’s mom describes him as “uniquely independent” and someone with tremendous maturity and resiliency.
Perry is unequivocally one of the most outstanding students in our senior class whose commitment to achieving the highest of academic standards and remarkable work-ethic allow him to balance the enormous demands that pull him in conflicting directions.

Athletics Weekly Summary
January 28th - February 1st
Written by: Caroline Howard
Well golly me and my old aunt GiGi! Boy was this week one to remember! I feel as though these Basketball and Hockey games make me age faster because of how close they are, but I just can’t look away! The Sharks have found their strides this week, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! So let’s get down to it, and away we go…
On Saturday, the Cape Cod Furies had a big victory over Martha’s Vineyard! The Furies showed their passion and aggression for the game from the first few minutes! They had a strong line of defense and a killer offense throughout the game. Goals were scored by Nikki Awalt, Jodi Wahtola, and Connor Boucher! Overall, the score of the game was 3-1! Way to show those Vineyarders ladies!
Also on Saturday was the Monarchs game, where the boys celebrated their Senior Night for the four seniors from Monomoy! A big shoutout to Noah Tambolleo, Cameron Archibald, Cameron Coomber, and Cole Currie! Thank you for all of your efforts on the team over the years! Although the Monarchs had a lovely celebration for the seniors and fought hard against the Nauset Warriors, it wasn’t enough to take home the win. The final score of the Monarchs game was 3-0. It’s alright boys, you’ll get them next time!
Monday brought around the Girls Basketball game against Martha’s Vineyard. Wow! This game was about as close as the Patriots and Chiefs a couple weeks ago! But, the girls took home the nerve-racking game with a score of 39-35! Way to show off your skills girls! Nice job!
The Girls Basketball team was back at it again on Tuesday with a game against Falmouth Academy. The girls showed off their undeniable tenacity as they repeatedly stole the ball from Mariners throughout the game! Strong plays were made by Leah Nash, Maggie Dever and Erin Starkey! However, in sports, you just can’t win them all. The girls fell to the Mariners 33-25. Nice effort girls! Way to give it your all the whole game!
Also on Tuesday was the Boys Basketball game against the DY Dolphins. This game was actually one tons of fans came out to see, while some fans also stayed home and watched the live stream from our very own media crew! Boy are we lucky! The game showcased the boys supreme efforts in shooting, as well as defensive play. Unfortunately, a buzzer beater from the Dolphins gave them the lead 48-45. On behalf of the whole Athletic Department, as well as Administration, we want to commend our fans and Boys Basketball team for displaying great cooperation and sportsmanship at the game. That is an important value we carry at our school, and everyone displayed that tremendously! Way to carry yourselves Sharks!
Wednesday came around and had the Furies back in action! These girls played an incredible game against the Marshfield Rams which had fans on the edge of their seats! The Furies goalie, Molly McKenna, showed off her fierce play when it came to blocking shots and sending the skaters the other way on the ice! Strong play was also presented by Kira Ridley, Nikki Awalt and Margaret Dickson-who actually had the game winning goal! A big victory for the Furies that will be remembered by their whole team I’m sure! Way to go!
Was Thursday a day to be a Shark! Although, isn’t everyday? Ha! We had Girls Basketball play a tough one against Saint John Paul! The Sharks gave this one their all and walked away with one big fat victory! The game brought around great shots and rebounds by the whole team! The final score of the game was 39-23! Great job ladies!
Thursday brought around another win, this one from the Monarchs! They faced off against Martha’s Vineyard in a downright back and forth battle. The Monarchs showed patience and stick skills against the Vineyarders and ultimately walked away with a victory 4-2! A big shoutout to Cameron Coomber with a hat trick for the Monarchs! Nice job Cam and to the whole team!
Well folks, the time has come for me to sign off. Butttttttt don’t worry, you know it never lasts that long! See you all next week! For now, I’m Caroline Howard and Go Sharks!

- Just wanted to send a shout out to Mitchell Schaub. He took it upon himself yesterday to help a student who has trouble with crowded situation get back to class. No one had to ask him to do it, he recognized it and assisted out of his own time and kindness. I actually had one of my students come to me to tell me because they were so impressed when they saw it. Very impressed. -Mr. John Herring
- A huge shoutout to all the EL students who tested this week. Thanks for working so hard -Ms. Mimi
