Joan of Arc was a teenager who led Charles VIIs armies to dramatic victories in the Anglo-French Hundred Years War.  She was tried and executed by her enemies, and later exonerated and proclaimed a saint.  According to George Bernard Shaw, "She is the most notable Warrior Saint in the Christian calendar.

Battle of Hastings:  The Battle of Hastings in 1066, pictured on the Bayeux Tapestry, ended with the defeat of the English by the Normans. The Norman leader, William the Conqueror, became king of England.
