The Sailor Signal
Cottage Lake Elementary - May 8, 2022
A note from Principal Welch
I want to start by wishing each of our mothers, or those who are referred to as mothers, a very Happy Mother's Day! Thank you for all you do to support and love our students each day. Without you, we would not have our Sailor students. I am so thankful for all you do each day and I hope you are shown how much you are loved today.... and every day.
Next, I want to share a thank you to all families for showering our staff with thoughtful notes of appreciation this past week. Thank you for the notes, the reflection paper, the flowers, and the acts of kindness. Thank you for going out of your way to show our staff how much they mean to you and your family.
Thank you to our PTA for showing love to our staff, as well. They provided treats thought-out the week and lunch on Friday. Thank you for always being there for our staff and showering them with love and appreciation. We are grateful!
On Friday, our auction kicked off. I have been looking at items this weekend and I'm getting ready to bid on a few numbers. Please see the note below from the PTA regarding our auction. This is a huge fundraiser for our school community and so much of the proceeds go right back to supporting our students and school. I hope you will consider participating. The auction ends this coming Friday at 10:00 PM, so don't wait!
Please take the time read over the information below in the newsletter. Some items are new, there are some repeats and other is also a reminder of the Interim Superintendent survey that was sent to all families. I encourage you to complete the survey to share what you would like to see in the next NSD Superintendent.
I hope we all have a great week ahead!
Take Care,
~ Jennifer Welch, Principal

Reminder of calendar change
Field Day is coming!
Field Day is Wednesday, June 15 from 2:15-3:45 PM. This will be a whole-school event. We need many volunteers to run the stations and to help make this event a success. We will need volunteers a little longer than the event, so volunteer hours are 1:45-4:15 PM. A few examples of stations are: arm wrestling, water cup relay, and oversized clothes relay. All volunteers must complete our background check process and need to be fully vaccinated, as well.
If you can help, please follow the sign-up genius link below and sign up to help run a station. You will not need to prepare in any way - all supplies and game directions (if needed) will be given to you. Just show up, help set up, and have fun! Thank you for considering! Y

Interim Superintendent survey
Reminder: Please complete the Interim Superintendent Community Input Survey by Friday, May 13.
-------------------------
Dear Northshore School District community,
As we move through the process of finding our interim superintendent - who will begin a one-year position in June - it is important that we hear from our community and understand the type of leader who would best fit our district’s unique needs.
Please take a moment and complete our survey. Because of the shortened timeline to identify the best-qualified candidate for this interim superintendent position before July, the online survey is your opportunity to share your thoughts with the School Board. It should only take around 10 minutes to complete. Please share this survey link with other members of the Northshore community who may be interested. If your younger student would like to complete the survey, please assist them in filling it out.
The survey is open until Friday, May 13.

If you are printing out the menu at the beginning of the month, there will inevitably be changes before the month is over.
Although our department strives to make changes at least 7 days ahead, there are weeks when we must make a change with 2-3 days' notice due to delivery shortages, today we have had to make a change to Friday's menu.
