Biomedical Engineering is the application of engineering principles and design concepts to medicine and biology for healthcare purposes. You need to have at least a Bachelors Degree. Biomedical engineers analyze and design solutions to problems in biology and medicine, with the goal of improving the quality and effectiveness of patient care. The median expected annual pay for a typical Biomedical Engineer in the United States is $51,670. There are many excellent schools to go to for this career, for example there is The University of Texas at San Antonio, Stanford University, and DeVry University.
In the Future
Government economists expect jobs for biomedical engineers to grow much faster than the average for all careers through 2020. In fact, this will be the third fastest-growing career. This field is small, however, so the number of new positions will not be large.
