Graduation Celebration May 16th at 2:00 PM
Heritage Academy is planning to go forward with a modified graduation celebration for graduates on Saturday, May 16th at 2:00 PM. On May 16th, we will celebrate our graduates with a “Drive Through” Graduation at 2900 Barberry Avenue in Columbia. You, your family, and your vehicle are invited to attend to help us celebrate graduates.
Mr. Ben Schnipper has written up instructions with a map explaining the drive through and parade. Specific instructions for the "Drive Through Graduation" will be sent out by gradelink email.
Saturday, July 25th is also being reserved as a date for a more traditional commencement or reception as needed. Our highest priority is to glorify God as we honor our 2020 seniors for their accomplishments.

Secondary Final Exam Guidelines
Dear Heritage Academy Parent,
Semester Exams for seventh through twelfth grade students are just around the corner! Teachers will be communicating about finals directly with parents and students.
Schedule
COVID-19 and the transition to online education has impacted finals methodology and schedule. We are posting a schedule with Finals Guidelines below.
Monday, May 11th
9:30-11:15 English
11:15-12:15 Lunch
12:15-2:00 Math
Tuesday, May 12th
9:30-11:15 History
11:15-12:15 Lunch
12:15-2:00 Science
- Seniors are not required to take a final in any class in which they have achieved an “A” letter grade (at the teacher’s discretion).
- The Heritage Academy policy prohibiting “take-home exams” has been waived for the remainder of this semester. Take-home quizzes, tests, or final exams can be “take-home” or “open book”. Although the administration will post a final exam schedule, time limit exceptions are at the discretion of the teacher. For example, a language arts teacher may decide to start their final during the scheduled timeframe on Monday, but communicate to students that they have two days to finish the essay. A math teacher, however, may prefer to keep to the schedule and a specified timeframe of 1.75 hours for their final. What is important here is communication with students and parents. Teachers should be cautious not to extend the “timeframe” of finals past Tuesday, May 12th at 3:00 PM.
- Traditional Final exams must be proctored by a parent to ensure the integrity of the exam. Time limits for exams are at the discretion of the teacher within the limits of point #2 above.
- Teachers may offer a traditional comprehensive exam as they see fit or they may substitute a course project or essay for the final. Teachers should seek to offer a final exam that allows students to demonstrate that they have met desired learning outcomes for the course without failing students as a result of the shift to online learning. Teachers are cautioned that the final remains 15% of the student’s grade, so we need to be realistic when developing this semester’s final.
- Teachers should continue to provide study guides and appropriate reviews for any type of final exam given.
- Teachers in elective courses may choose to offer a unit exam rather than a comprehensive final exam or no final at all.
