CPR For Adults

Check For Responsiveness

  • Tap shoulder
  • Ask for verbal confirmation of condition

Obtain Consent

  • Before performing any aid, ask for permission
  • If individual is unresponsive, continue with care

Open the Airway

  • Tilt head
  • Lift chin

Perform CPR

  • Use only when there is no breathing
  • 30 chest compressions
  • 2 rescue breaths
  • DO NOT STOP unless- signs of life become apparent, you are too exhausted, or trained EMS personnel arrive


  • Only for individuals older than 8
  • Wipe bare chest clean
  • Attach pads
  • Connect to device
  • Clear all objects and people touching the individual
  • Follow device directions and administer shock if recommended
