Thought for the Day
Letter from the Principal
Dear Families,
I hope the above quote makes you laugh as it did me. There aren't enough times that I can include EB White's thoughts in a text. Is genius found in a cracked pot rather than a whole one? Can we find new ideas when we can see the mistakes rather than completing something perfectly and automatically? I hope so. This whole year has been an experiment in education, taking care of children's cognitive and social and emotional needs. Teachers have found the cracks in our delivery of education as we cope with technological glitches and work with both in person and remote learners. The teachers will be extremely happy to let go of Zoom and focus on the students in front of them! As we return, the teachers and I have thought through the new procedures that need to be put in place. Please know that as we prepare for the return of the children that we have their safety as our first concern.
I always tell you that if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I certainly hear from angry parents and parents who want to express their appreciation. The hardest part about this year is working in isolation without a natural discourse with all of you. I am also open to your feedback on what is working at Summer Street and what is not. I am here and ready to listen.
Sincerely,
Karen
WEEK 2
Dismissal
SSS Bus Routes AM/PM
The SSS bus routes are printed in the newspaper, on the LPS website and on the SSS website. Here is the link from the website:
Arrival and Dismissal Traffic: Suggestions from the Police
1. Park on the adjacent streets and walk the kids to the school or crosswalk for those who are able to do so.
SSS - Todd Lane, Elizabeth Way, Taylor Terrace.
2. Form a line up on the same side of the school and take a right turn to drop off, the crossing guard and Police will be encouraging people to do this. This will allow traffic to flow, and is currently in place and working.
3. Take the bus to alleviate traffic and wait times.
4. Do not stay in the parking lot after drop off and pick up.
5. Expect delays and be patient during this time while there may be increased traffic or wait times.
