It is very simple, so don't feel intimidated if you have never screened before. Feel free to stay for more than one shift if you are able. Thank you for your help! Hope for Autumn Day
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month!
Were you aware:
-1 in 300 children will be diagnosed with cancer by age 21
-More than 150 children are diagnosed with cancer each year in Alabama
-Over 500 children undergo cancer treatments each year in Alabama
-80% of children diagnosed with cancer will be cured of their illness, compared to less than 50% just two decades ago
-Only 4% of federal funding for cancer research is directed towards childhood cancer as a whole
Childhood cancer is a grossly underfunded and overlooked disease, even though it is the
leading cause of disease related death in children and adolescents.
Give Hope Day on September 22 gives administrators, staff, teachers, parents and children the chance to recognize and honor those who have battled childhood cancer as well as raise awareness. Because awareness leads to funding and funding leads to cures! #givehope For more information, visit hopeforautumnfoundation.org.
We are joining with several schools across the district to celebrate Hope for Autumn Day on Friday, September 20. This day is to help bring awareness for childhood cancer. All students and staff members are encouraged to wear yellow or gold to raise awareness. Please click this link to learn more about Hope for Autumn Day.

Snack Pantry
There are many students who attend school each day without a snack. School days can be long, and without a snack, students can potentially be distracted from their learning. We want our students to give their best effort in the classrooms each day. Teachers will selflessly volunteer their personal funds to supply students with snack options. We want to make sure our students do not go throughout the day without a snack.Recently, our 5th Grade team of teachers decided start a "Snack Pantry" here at TCES. We would like to ask you to consider donating snack items to help us fill our pantry for students. Donated snacks can be sent with your student. There will be a designated area for "Snack Pantry Items" near the main office when we return from the Labor Day holiday. Donated snack items may include but are not limited to, baked chips, fruit snacks, crackers, cereal bars, and etc. We appreciate you and thank you for considering!

Excused Absences: Absences are excused for the following reasons:
- illness

- the parent’s signature
After nine (9) absences in a semester, Hoover City Schools may not excuse other absences unless verified by a physician explanation.
Unexcused Absences: Any absence that does not fall under the category of Excused Absence is recorded as an Unexcused Absence. Any student with 5 (five) unexcused absences during the school year may be referred to Early Warning Court in the court division of the student’s school zone.
Absences are unexcused for the following:
