general information of the islamic revolution
The Islamic Revolution of 1979 was aimed at ending the Pahlavi Dynasty. There are two kings in this dynasty, resacha and muhamid resasha. What is a shah? you might ask, its a title of the former monarch of Iran. Most people in Iran are not Arabs, they speak Persian. In 1953, people tried to help form a coup (a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government) to remove Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddegh from office. all of this information is being provided from john greens youtube series crash course, John Green calls the Shah who ruled in 1970s an autocrat. autocrat means, a ruler who has absolute power. In 1975, when the Shah’s Resurgence Party took over, three things did the Shah’s followers do to ensure he maintained power. those three things were Censorship, decease and torture.

textual evidence
"Since then, this old and great civilization has been discussed mostly in connection with fundamentalism, fanaticism, and terrorism. As an Iranian who has lived more than half of my life in Iran, I know that this image is far from the truth. This is why writing Persepolis was so important to me. I believe that an entire nation should not be judged by the wrongdoings of a few extremists. I also don't want those Iranians who lost their lives in prisons defending freedom, who died in the war against Iraq, who suffered under various
repressive regimes, or who were forced to leave their families and flee their homeland to be forgotten.
One can forgive but one should never forget." (Marjane Satrapi, Persepolis)
