Back to School Update
September 17, 2020
Dear Valley View Families,
~Valley View Administration
Mr. Sherrard, Principal: bsherrar@k12.wv.us
Ms. Ematrudo, Assistant Principal: kematrudo@k12.wv.us
ALL students return to school for instruction 5 days per week on Monday, September 21, 2020.
CLICK Expectations for Students
- Beginning on Monday, September 21, the expectation is that all CLICK students will be present for daily live sessions. Families who are experiencing technical difficulties and unable to access a live session will need to contact the teacher, and then view the recorded sessions later in the day. Our teachers will be instructing, and will not be able to stop instruction to troubleshoot tech issues. We encourage all families to make sure they are comfortable using the iPad and know how to access Microsoft Teams through Schoology prior to Monday's meeting.
- All CLICK students are expected to log-in daily for live sessions with their teacher, or to view the recorded sessions in Schoology before 11:59 PM. Students who do not attend the live sessions, or view the recorded sessions will be marked ABSENT. Our teachers have the ability to view details in Schoology that indicate how much time a student is spending logged in to Schoology.
- It is vital that all of our families are communicating with the CLICK teachers on a daily basis in order to maintain a successful learning environment for the students. Consistency is important to ensure optimal learning. Please reach out to your child's CLICK teacher with any questions.
iPad Expectations
We ask all Valley View students to be responsible, respectful, and safe when using iPads.
Responsible
- I will bring my iPad back and forth from school to home every day.
- I will only use the apps that my teacher has instructed me to use.
- I will carry my iPad with both hands and carry it to my desk each morning.
- I will take care of the iPad by holding it carefully, and keeping it away from food
- or drinks.
- I will make sure my iPad is charged every night so that it is ready for learning the next day.
Respectful
- I will only use the iPad at the appropriate time. When my teacher is talking or
- giving directions, I will not be using the iPad.
- I will not allow the iPad to distract me from learning.
- I will not use my iPad to record (photo or video) others without permission.
Safe
- I will never use the internet to search material that is inappropriate for school.
- I will not change any settings, add, or remove apps.
- I will never allow the iPad to leave my house with someone else.
- I understand that using the iPads during class time is a privilege; if I choose not to follow the above expectations, I will lose the ability to use the device.
Parents, please help us by ensuring your child’s school device is charged nightly, it is in their bookbag each morning, and that it is kept in a safe place while at home. All iPads are property of Berkeley County Schools and will need to be returned at the end of the school year, or if your child transfers to a new school/county.
*Repeated instances of leaving an iPad at home will result in the child not being permitted to bring it home in the future.*
Help Desk
The BCS Tech Help Desk is open Monday - Thursday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. You should receive a call or an email addressing your issue on the day you fill out this form. Update Your Student's Emergency Card Information
Emergency card updates must be completed in FamilyID by September 2020.
It is very important that you fill out an Emergency Card for each student enrolled in BCS within your home. This information is needed when your child is ill or when we have early school closings, delays or other important information to communicate with you, the caregiver, via phone, email and/or text. Please fill the online form out completely as soon as possible so that we have accurate, up-to-date information regarding your student.
