Bucket-Filling Trait: Friendship
It's a Marvelous Monday at JSE!
Happy New Year JSE Families!
We started off the day with our JSE news and our first JSE cheer of the new year! Students were reminded of our focus to be respectful, responsible and safe. Our custodial team did an excellent job over break getting our building in shape for the 2nd half of the school year.
You may have noticed large equipment at our building over break, we are very pleased to let you know we now have energy efficient lights in our gym and wow does it make a huge difference in our lighting! You will also continue to see construction on our outside storage barn at the car rider door as our barn is renovated. This renovation will not affect our car rider arrival or dismissal. These building updates are exciting for us all!
This week we dive right back into learning, setting goals, and celebrating achievements. Our students will take STAR reading and math winter benchmark assessments in the next two weeks. This data collection will provide us with individual student growth information and focus areas to inform our instruction. Reports will be sent home by your child's classroom teacher after the assessment window.
January 15th is the end of the 2nd quarter and report cards will be sent home on the 21st. Your child still has time to reach his 2nd quarter AR goal!

Read for 20: Free myON Digital Library
From the IDOE: As part of the Department’s on-going literacy initiative, the Hoosier Family of Readers, books will be accessible through the myON Digital Library and will be available in both English and Spanish.
“I am excited to announce that Hoosier students will have access to thousands of free online books in 2016,” said Glenda Ritz, Indiana’s Superintendent of Public Instruction. “A reader is not someone who can read, rather a reader is someone who does read. Providing students with access to thousands of online books supports the mission of the Indiana Department of Education: to provide every student with the resources they need to have an education of the highest quality.”
Beginning on January 1, 2016, and going through December 31, 2016, students, families, and educators will have access to more than 5,000 free, online books through the myON Digital Library. Additionally, the Department is encouraging students across the state to participate in its 200,000 book challenge. Every book read using myON will contribute to our goal of reading 200,000 books to celebrate Indiana’s Bicentennial in December 2016.
Additional information about the Hoosier Family of Readers initiative and details on how students can begin reading on January 1 can be found atwww.hoosierfamilyofreaders.com.
