Weekly Update

Dear Families,

We hope that heading into the Victoria Day long weekend everyone continues to be healthy and safe.

Our staff are continuing to work very hard from home to support emergency remote learning. Some of this work is visible, like the activities and assignments posted by our teachers and ECEs in virtual classrooms, and during the Google meetings that are happening; some of the hard work is "behind the scenes", but very important. Our Educational Assistants have been extremely valuable members of our school team during the past 7 weeks of emergency remote learning: they are making regular phone calls to families to do "wellness checks", are providing support with learning through video-conferences and calls, are preparing activities for students with special learning needs, supporting with the Food Sharing program, and attending regular meetings with us. We are so appreciative of their incredible efforts!

Ms. McCaffrey, our Educational Assistant who oversees the Learning Commons, arranged for some amazing books that we purchased prior to March Break to be delivered to her home. She was so excited to share them that she made a video for us! Thank you, Ms. McCaffrey, and thank you to Parent Council for your support of our Learning Commons. We can't wait until we are able to get these books on shelves!

Did you know that 109 students & staff are part of the Henderson Running Club this spring? We are so excited about how active our students are being during this tough period of self-isolation: Henderson Hawks are seen out in their neighbourhoods walking, running and biking every day! We have included some information below about how many kilometers we have moved in total, and a map to show how far across Canada we have moved so far....keep it up, Hawks! And make sure to check out the Henderson Running Club Google Classroom: it is not too late! If you cannot find the Google Classroom, let your teacher know and we will provide the code so that you can sign up. Thank you to Mrs. Davey for all of her hard work to make this special club happen!

Upcoming Virtual School Spirit Days:

Friday, May 22nd -- Crazy Hair Day

Friday, May 29th -- Hawks Day (wear green, yellow, or school spirit wear!)

Make sure to send pictures to the school email -- we will post them all, and know that it helps us to feel connected to see each other! We received a few more Jersey Day photos that were so much fun to see...they are included below :)

We want to remind families that if access to food is a challenge for your family right now, we can provide a connection with the Food Sharing Project. If your family is in need of Food Sharing, please reach out to Mme Peart at pearts@limestone.on.ca or Mrs. Davey at daveyjk@limestone.on.ca

We hope that everyone is able to enjoy a bit of sunshine over the long weekend, and find ways to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. Take good care, Hawks.

Mme Peart and Mrs. Davey
