Self Care: Make It A Priority for You and Your Kids

With the business of just being a family and getting daily tasks accomplished it can be easy to forget to take care of ourselves. It helps to make self-care a priority daily. It doesn't have to be something lengthy, but it can be. Mix it up! Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Good self-care is key to improved mood and reduced anxiety. It's also key to a good relationship with oneself and others. Self-care involves taking the time to recognize what it is we need to help us be the best version of ourselves.

April 20th - 24th: April Vacation, Make Sure to Take A Break!

As stated in Superintendent Colpitt's letter to families on April 8th, what we thought was going to be a sprint for a few weeks of remote learning has become a marathon. It has been announced by the Maine Commissioner of Education, with Governor Mills’ approval, that all schools in the State of Maine, including Oxford Hills, prepare for remote learning for the remainder of the school year. If the Commissioner and/or Governor were to declare it safe to return to on-site learning before our last day of school, we would consider returning at that time to allow students and staff to have closure for this academic year.

With all that being said, it is time for us to take a small break, for us all to pause, rest and gather strength for the final lap of the sprint that has become a marathon. The Oxford Hills School District will be honoring our traditional April Vacation Week, April 20th through April 24th. There will be no remote learning during this week and teachers will not be connecting with families this week either.

We hope that you take time during our April Vacation Week to relax, get out in nature, and take care of your health and well-being. We will begin remote learning again on Monday, April 27th. You will receive your child's next learning packet in the mail. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION - 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

If you have a child or know of a child who will be starting either Pre-K or Kindergarten for the coming school year, would you please let us know?

Registration will be coming up and we are starting our lists now.

  • For Pre-K, your child must turn four by October 15, 2020. Please call Marj Scribner at 207-743-8972 to have a packet mailed to you.

  • For Kindergarten, your child must be five by October 15, 2020. Please call 207-539-4456. We will need your child's name, date of birth, mailing address, and parents' name(s) and phone numbers. Once we know the date of the screening we will contact you.

Please pass this information along to a friend or neighbor if they have a child who will be coming to Oxford Elementary School in the fall. All children must register with their hometown school, even if you plan to have them attend another school in the district.

If your child is currently a Pre K student they will be put on our list and will not need to go through the registration process. Please make sure to keep us informed if your mailing address or phone number changes.
